Week 8 vs Jaguars
Tyler Lockett was already dropping even before Geno Smith took over. It's gotten worse since then. He had just 12 yards against the Saints. Of course, Smith was barely moving the ball as a whole, but still, it's really frustrating to see how inconsistent Lockett has become. He had just three targets last week. Those 100-yard games seem like forever ago. Jacksonville is No. 18 in our matchup rankings vs WRs so...maybe?
Week 7 vs Saints
It's frustrating and unfortunate to yet again watch Tyler Lockett be so inconsistent. Week 6 was arguably Lockett's worst output this season with 35 yards on two catches. To put things into a little perspective, Lockett has totaled 147 yards on 15 catches over the last four games after a 4/100/2 Week 1 and an 8/178/1 Week 2. He's still getting targets, however, so we can't write him off. He's still a flex option, especially with six teams off this week.
Week 6 vs Steelers
It's almost like deja vu. Lockett started off so hot and has quickly cooled off. After two straight 100-yard games, Lockett has three games with 57 yards or less and zero touchdowns. He did, however, see 10 targets in Week 5, his most since Week 2. We'll see what kind of connection Smith and Lockett have going forward. For now, Lockett is a flex option as he tries to get his fantasy season back on track.
Week 5 vs Rams
After a shot start to the season, Lockett has cooled off over the last two weeks, totaling just 55 yards on eight catches. He's also been quiet recently against the Rams. 66 yards is his best output in the last five games against LA, including the playoffs. Lockett always has upside each week, but proceed with caution. We've seen this story before with Lockett.
Week 4 at 49ers
Tyler Lockett had his first quiet game of the season after two big ones to start the season. He caught four passes for just 31 yards. But we know Lockett can explode any given week. He's always a very strong WR2 at the very least with WR1 upside and Russell Wilson loves throwing to him. No reason to shy away yet from Lockett.
Week 3 vs Vikings
It's so nice to see Tyler Lockett off to a fast start. He has already matched his number of 100-yard receiving games from 2020 after his 178-yard performance against the Titans. Through two weeks, Lockett is second in the league in receiving yards, just four yards less than Deebo Samuel. Interestingly enough, he's been deadlocked in targets each week so far with DK Metcalf (five each in Week 1, 11 each in Week 2). With Russell Wilson cooking, it's made both receivers top-10 options this week.
Week 2 vs Titans
So nice to see Lockett get off to a strong start after his very up-and-down 2020. Let's hope he keeps this up. But like the rest of this offense, when they are on, they are on. And if Tennessee's performance in Week 1 is any indication, there is plenty of room for both Lockett and DK Metcalf to both shine in Week 2. Both are among the WR1 grouping this week.
Week 1 at Colts
Just like Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett is hoping to regain his mojo from the first half of last season, though he did finish the regular season with 12 catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns against the 49ers. He did have 100 catches for 1,054 yards and ten touchdowns. But as we know, 200 of those yards and three of those touchdowns came in one game against the Cardinals and 300 of those yards and six of those touchdowns came in two games (Week 3 vs Dallas, Week 6 at Arizona). The hope is the new contract for Lockett gives him his shine back and gets his consistency back. Despite all that, he is still one of the better pass-catchers in the league and still a worthy option against the Colts.
Fantasy Upside
Tyler Lockett continued to show he is one of the more underrated receivers in the NFL and one of the better route-runners in 2020. The Seahawks rewarded Lockett with a new contract this offseason which included $37 million guaranteed. The highlight of 2020 for him was his 15-200-3 line in Week 7 against the Cardinals, his second game with three touchdown receptions. In total, he had 100 catches for 1,054 yards and ten touchdowns, so you know you'll get production from Lockett.
Fantasy Downside
Lockett was almost non-existent in the second half as Seattle's passing game was limited for more of a run-based approach. He had just three touchdowns from Week 8 and two of them came in Week 17 when most fantasy leagues were already wrapped up. Fantasy owners are just hoping for more consistency from Lockett in 2021.
2021 Bottom Line
The arrival of Shane Waldron ideally will help Russell Wilson cook again, which should boost Lockett and get him back to a consistent WR1/WR2 level. Seattle is also paying Lockett like they expect him to be a consistent, high-powered receiver ($17.3 million per year). Lockett is in the WR2/WR3 level with potential to get back to high-end WR2/low-end WR1 levels.
Week 17 vs 49ers
Lockett ended up with a decent 2020 season, but perhaps a little underwhelming compared to what we’ve seen in the past from him. He had just seven games with over 50 yards. He did total eight touchdowns, but of course, six of them came in two games. He’ll try to end the regular season on a positive note, though his recent track record against the 49ers is also fairly quiet. 51 yards is his highest mark in this series over the last four games, including just 33 yards in Week 8. He’s still a borderline WR2 for this week just being the WR2 next to Metcalf.
