Fantasy Upside
The Colts made a conscious effort to utilize more 3WR formations last season instead of 2TE sets, after spending a 1st round pick on Dorsett. With TE Coby Fleener gone, there’s no reason to believe that won’t continue again in 2016, giving Dorsett the snaps required to get regular targets. That could make Dorsett a handful for nickel corners, as he flashed big play ability in 2015, most notably a Week 3 35-yard touchdown in a comeback win at Tennessee. If anything were to happen to T.Y. Hilton or Donte Moncrief, Dorsett’s fantasy stock would also see a big rise.
Fantasy Downside
There are a lot of mouths to feed in the passing game in Indianapolis, and at best, Dorsett is 3rd in that pecking order. That likely makes it difficult to expect consistent production on a week-to-week basis from this young, but very talented, receiver.
Bottom Line
Dorsett is not inside our top-60 receivers, and despite the tantalizing measurables in Dorsett’s game, targets will be an issue. He’s currently being drafted in the 13th round in 12-team leagues, and even that late, there are better options than Dorsett (unless Hilton or Moncrief get hurt).
Week 7 vs. New Orleans
Phillip Dorsett hasn't had more than two receptions in any game this season. He's not worth considering, even in a good matchup.
Week 5 vs. Houston
Phillip Dorsett isn’t used much in Indianapolis offense. He’s had at least one catch per week, but it’s hard to know when he’ll make enough of an impact to be relevant. It is better to avoid him.
Week 4 vs. Jacksonville
Phillip Dorsett is explosive, but he has just five receptions on 12 targets this season. He's not exactly a reliable option when it comes to fantasy football.
Week 2 vs. New York Jets
Phillip Dorsett might have the most to gain from T.Y. Hilton's injury, as the rookie only played on 22 percent of the Colts offensive snaps in Week 1. As a result, he didn't see too much action as he finished with two catches for 45 yards on three targets.
Dorsett should be on the field more often in Week 2 if Hilton is unable to suit up. There's still reason for caution, however, because there's no guarantee he sees a lot of playing time and is facing a tough defense. Dorsett should be viewed as a WR4 this week.
Week 1 vs. Buffalo
Rookie WR Phillip Dorsett likely won't see much action immediately. He's a promising player, but we don't know exactly how he'll be used in this offense. He's not a strong start in Week 1.
