DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. New York Jets
Courtland Sutton only caught three balls on five targets in Week 4, but he salvaged his fantasy performance by finding the endzone on one of his catches. Sutton's underlying usage metrics remain strong. He had a 100% route participation rate in Week 4 despite Jerry Jeudy trending towards full health and rookie Marvin Mims displaying great efficiency. Sutton's hot start to the season has seemingly solidified his prominent role in the Denver passing game, but he gets a difficult matchup at home this week when the Broncos welcome Sauce Gardner and the Jets to town. Jeudy's continued healing and Mims' potential ascension to more playing time could threaten Sutton's target share down the line, but for now he remains a potential flex play even in an unideal matchup against the Jets.

DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Chicago Bears
With Jerry Jeudy working his way back from a hamstring injury, Courtland Sutton has assumed the role of Russell Wilson's top target through three weeks. Sutton saw a season-high 11 targets in Week 3 with the Broncos playing catch-up against Miami, and he managed to record 91 yards and a touchdown on that usage. Sutton has seen five red zone targets through three games, which has been a big boost to his fantasy value. Jeudy is playing more each week, which could threaten Sutton's target share, but rookie Marvin Mims is Denver's third option in the passing game and he is still being used sparingly despite being highly efficient. As long as Sutton continues to record a roughly 90% route participation rate, there should be enough opportunity available for both Sutton and Jeudy to be flex plays. A tissue-soft matchup against the Bears this week certainly doesn't hurt Sutton's cause as a possible starter.

DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Miami Dolphins
Courtland Sutton maintained his prominent role in the Denver passing game in Week 2 when he saw seven targets and caught five of them for 66 yards. Sutton has 12 targets, nine catches, and a touchdown through two weeks, but it should be noted that Jerry Jeudy missed Week 1 entirely and only played 69% of the snaps in Week 2 as he works his way back from a hamstring issue suffered in training camp. Jeudy's return to full health means he is a threat to infringe on Sutton's target share, and there just is not much wiggle room for Sutton to remain a legitimate fantasy option in the current state of the Denver offense. We will have to see if Jeudy is back to a full-time player this week, but for now Sutton is merely a low-end flex play for Week 3 against Miami.

DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Washington Commanders
Courtland Sutton only managed four catches for 32 yards on five targets in Week 1, but one of his catches went for a five-yard touchdown to salvage his fantasy day. The Broncos offense looked good for a half last Sunday, but it fell off a cliff after halftime and Russell Wilson reverted to his 2022 form to close the game out. Sutton's 94% route participation and 87% snap share from Week 1 are positive signs, but it is a little concerning that he was only able to earn five targets in a game Jerry Jeudy missed due to injury. With such limited volume, Sutton's fantasy outlook will be touchdown-dependent and that is a tough proposition with the way the Broncos have looked on offense since Russell Wilson's arrival. It looks like Jeudy may be back in a limited fashion this week, a development that only dampens Sutton's fantasy outlook further. Sutton can be considered as a low-end flex play until Jeudy is back to full health, but he is not an overly exciting starting option this week against Washington.

DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Courtland Sutton is poised to lead the Broncos' pass catching group in Week 1 with Jerry Jeudy seemingly doubtful due to his hamstring injury. Sutton is coming off a disappointing 2022 season, but just about everyone involved with Denver's offense last year was disappointing and the injuries to Jeudy and Tim Patrick leave the Broncos with few legitimate receiving options behind Sutton and rookie Marvin Mims. Sutton gets the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1, who were a bad defense last season and especially struggled against the pass. Sutton is looking at a healthy target share in a good matchup this Sunday, so there is room for a starter-worthy performance here if the new-look Broncos bounce back under Sean Payton right off the bat. Sutton has a limited ceiling due the offense he works in, but the opportunity should be there for him to be considered as a flex option against the Raiders.

DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Kansas City Chiefs
Courtland Sutton returned from injury in Week 16 and instantly played 79% of Denver's offensive snaps and saw seven targets. Sutton started strong with Russell Wilson under center this season, but he has faded down the stretch as Wilson and the Broncos have perpetually struggled to generate offense. Sutton will likely benefit from a volume bump this week with the Broncos having to try to keep pace with the Chiefs and presumptive MVP Patrick Mahomes, but Wilson's poor play has rendered all of the Broncos as low-floor options on a weekly basis. Sutton is worth a look as a desperation flex if you're really struggling to fill out a lineup, but he is not a particularly attractive option in this offense.

DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Baltimore Ravens
Courtland Sutton is competing with the likes of Kendall Hinton and rookie tight end Greg Dulcich for targets as we head into Week 13, but Denver has been so incompetent on offense that he has had trouble even reaching flex-worthy numbers in recent games. Sutton's 6-75-0 line in Week 12 is about as good as we can expect from anyone in an offense that ranks near the bottom of the NFL in touchdowns and total points. Sutton will command a strong target share given the state of the Broncos' offensive depth chart, but there is no way he can be counted on for consistent fantasy production barring a sudden epiphany from Russell Wilson and Nathaniel Hackett. Sutton is an unexciting flex play against the Ravens in Week 13.

DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Carolina Panthers
Courtland Sutton's lack of target competition would be exciting for fantasy managers under normal circumstances, but the fact remains that Sutton is stuck in arguably the league's least efficient offense. Sutton's 5-80-0 line in Week 11 wasn't bad, but it is difficult to imagine him surpassing that level of production on a consistent basis with Russell Wilson continuing his mediocre play and the Broncos struggling to move the ball in general. The Denver skill players have stunningly low touchdown upside in an offense that has failed to live up to expectations by a large margin and is competing with the Texans and Colts for fewest offensive touchdowns per game. Jerry Jeudy looks like he will miss another week which should lock Sutton into a healthy target share, but his team environment continues to make him a risky play and only worthy of flex consideration against Carolina.

DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Courtland Sutton had a busy but inefficient day in Week 10 when he saw 11 targets and caught six balls for 66 yards. Sutton's strong start to the season has tapered off in recent weeks as the Denver offense continues to be completely uninspiring. Now Jerry Jeudy is banged up and could miss Week 11, which might mean more targets for Sutton but also more defensive attention playing in a woefully inefficient offense. A Week 11 matchup with the Raiders' terrible defense could be a saving grace at least for this week. Sutton makes for a solid fantasy play this week simply because Denver is completely lacking for alternatives at the receiver position and the Broncos should be able to move the ball against Las Vegas. Sutton is worth a shot as a flex play this week.

Friday, November 18, 2022 - 2:35pm
DEN WR Courtland Sutton - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Tennessee Titans
After starting the season as Russell Wilson's clear top target, Courtland Sutton has seen a slight-drop off in target share in recent weeks as the Broncos work to get Jerry Jeudy more involved in the offense. Sutton hasn't registered a usable fantasy performance since Week 5 as the Broncos continue to deploy a slow and inefficient offense. The Titans present a winnable matchup for the Denver pass catchers, but the inconsistent nature of Russell Wilson's play has made it difficult to trust any of them as more than flex plays in fantasy. Sutton is a decent start this week as Wilson and the Broncos should be able to have some success through the air, but recent weeks have shown just how low his floor is right now.
