Week 16 vs. Tampa Bay
Coby Fleener had another quiet day for the Saints, catching two-of-three targets for just 10 yards in the team's Week 15 win over the Cardinals. His performance came on a day in which Drew Brees completed 37 passes for 389 yards and four touchdowns. Ranked as our TE16 for Week 16, view Fleener as a TE2 only. He's off the fantasy radar.
Week 15 at Arizona
Coby Fleener caught one-of-three targets for six yards in the Saints' Week 14 loss to the Bucs. Owners that rolled the dice on Fleener thinking he would have a bigger role in the offense with Josh Hill (ankle) and Michael Thomas (foot) sidelined were burned once again by the tight end. Ranked as our TE18 for Week 15, it's best to avoid Fleener this Sunday against the Cardinals, who rank No. 1 against fantasy tight ends this season.
Week 14 at Tampa Bay
Coby Fleener caught five-of-seven targets for 86 yards in the Saints' Week 13 loss to the Lions. It was the most targets he's seen since Week 6 when he also drew seven targets in the Saints' victory over the Panthers. Of course, Fleener also had two drops in the loss and remains untrustworthy as a fantasy option. Even with Josh Hill sidelined with an ankle injury, Fleener is nothing more than a TE2 for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay. He ranks as our TE15 for Week 14.
Week 13 vs. Detroit
Coby Fleener caught all four of his targets for 59 yards in the Saints’ Week 12 victory over the Rams. The good news is that he led the team with 59 yards in the first half. The bad news is that was the only yardage he gained in the entire game, as he was shut out in the second half. Fleener is nothing more than a TE2, and a risky one at that. He ranks as our TE17 for Week 13 and should be avoided. Cameron Brate, Antonio Gates, Vance McDonald and Lance Kendricks are all better options than Fleener if you need a TE streamer for this week.
Week 12 vs. Los Angeles
Coby Fleener caught three-of-five targets for 17 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 11 loss to the Panthers. Fantasy owners that have been forced to ride or die with Fleener were rewarded with his third receiving touchdown of the season. That said, he committed yet another drop that was technically a fumble and was also flagged for a false start penalty. Ranked as our TE19 for Week 12, we recommend you stay away from Fleener, who has clearly dropped off the TE1 map. If you're desperate at tight end, Lance Kendricks, Dennis Pitta, Cameron Brate or Will Tye might be available in your leagues.
Week 11 at Carolina
Coby Fleener caught both of his targets for 26 yards in the Saints' Week 10 loss to the Broncos. He has just 11 catches over his past four games and has seen 14 targets over that span. Fleener has never caught on in this offense and remains an afterthought in a passing game that also includes Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead and excellent rookie Michael Thomas. Ranked as our TE24 for Week 11, avoid Fleener for the Saints' Thursday night matchup with the Panthers.
Week 10 vs. Denver
Coby Fleener caught three passes for 42 yards on six targets in the Saints’ Week 9 win over the 49ers. He has now failed to go over 50 yards receiving in his last three games and hasn’t scored a touchdown since finding paydirt against the Panthers in Week 6. With just two touchdowns on the year, Fleener continues to be a fantasy bust. Ranked as our TE20, avoid Fleener for Week 10 if you have the luxury. Dennis Pitta, C.J. Fiedorowicz, Kyle Rudolph, Zch Ertz, Lance Kendricks, Gary Barnidge, Austin Hooper, Cameron Brate and Martellus Bennett are all possible waiver wire additions if you’re looking for a tight end.
Week 9 at San Francisco
Coby Fleener caught all four of his targets for a pedestrian 36 yards in the Saints' Week 8 win over the Seahawks. He played just 34 percent of the Saints' offensive snaps while Josh Hill played on 61-of-76 snaps and continues to see his workload increase. Fleener ranks as our TE15 for Week 9 despite a good matchup against the 49ers. If you have other options, avoid Fleener until his snaps increase.
Week 8 vs. Seattle
Coby Fleener caught both of his targets for 44 yards in the Saints Week 7 loss to the Chiefs. He wound up with a 30-yard gain in the second quarter, but was held off the stat sheet in the second half. The performance was disappointing for fantasy owners that watched as Fleener caught six passes for 74 yards and a touchdown in Week 6 against the Panthers. Owners should also be used to disappointment with Fleener at this juncture.
On Sunday the Saints will host the Seahawks, who own fantasy's No. 19 defense versus tight ends. Fleener ranks as our TE12 for Week 8, making him a low-end TE1 for Sunday. Start him at your own risk.
Week 7 at Kansas City Chiefs
Coby Fleener caught 6-of-7 targets for 74 yards and one touchdown in the Saints Week 6 win over the Panthers. His touchdown was unorthodox, as he actually rushed for a score with New Orleans facing a 4th-and-1 from the goal-line. Perhaps the reports over the bye week that Fleener was feeling more comfortable in Sean Payton's offense were accurate, although he's burned fantasy owners before.
Ranked as our TE13 for Week 7, view Fleener as a low-end TE1 in deeper formats when the Saints take on the Chiefs. Kansas City ranks as fantasy's No. 10 defense against tight ends this season.
