Scouting report

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Zach Wilson returned to the starting lineup with mixed results as he completed only 51% of his passes. He did end up with 321 passing yards and two touchdown passes, but threw a key interception. Mike White is not cleared for Thursday so Wilson will be the starter again.

Wilson faces the Jaguars who are ranked 32nd in aFPA to quarterbacks. Even with a favorable matchup, we aren't sold on him as a quality fantasy quarterback. Keep Wilson on the bench for Week 16.

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Detroit Lions
Current quarterback Mike White hasn't been cleared by doctors so Zach Wilson jumps back into the starting lineup. His numbers haven't been good this season completing only 56% of his passes for 1,279 yards. He has thrown only four touchdown passes and has also thrown five picks.

It's a good game for him to come back because the Lions have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. He is not on the fantasy radar this week as he ranks as only a low-end QB2, but it is a chance for some redemption.

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Buffalo Bills
Zach Wilson did have some fantasy positives in last week's loss including a career-high 355 passing yards and two touchdowns. However, he also threw three interceptions which was a big reason for the result. He also only completed 49% of his passes which was a season-low.

Wilson faces the Bills who are ranked 3rd in aFPA to quarterbacks. He only faced Buffalo once last season and it was ugly in the season finale.

Keep Wilson on the bench. Even with all the QBs out with bye weeks, he is one of the lowest rated quarterbacks for Week 9.

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. New England Patriots
The Jets passing game has kind of been lethergic the last couple weeks but they really don't care because they keep winning. Zach Wilson has thrown for a combined 231 yards and zero touchdowns the past two games, but he also has not thrown an interception in that span.

Wilson faces the Patriots who are ranked 21st in aFPA to quarterbacks. Don't expect much to change because they are having him manage the game and they will keep doing it as long New York keeps winning.

Keep Wilson on the bench for Week 8 as he is not any kind of fantasy option against New England.

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Green Bay Packers
Zach Wilson made his second start of the season and got his second win, but the fantasy numbers weren't very good. He did have a rushing touchdown, but zero passing touchdowns and only 210 passing yards. The jury is still out on where he ranks in the QB hierarchy but if you are looking for a backup on your roster, he has been quality so far.

Wilson faces the Packers who rank 11th in aFPA to quarterbacks. What he is doing is solidifying his spot as the Jets future, but the fantasy numbers aren't quite there yet. He ranks a QB2 for Week 6.

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Miami Dolphins
Zach Wilson returned to the starting lineup for New York and although the Jets won the game and Wilson led them back from a 10-point deficit, his fantasy numbers weren't very good. He only completed 50% of his passes and although you will take the 252 passing yards every week, he threw only one touchdown pass and two picks.

Wilson faces the Dolphins for the first time this season. Miami is ranked 26th in aFPA to quarterbacks so far in 2022. Last season, he faced the 'Fins in December and was awful.

There is no doubt Wilson is the man for now in New York. However, he is a work in progress. There are no expectations here and he shouldn't be in your starting lineup. He rates as a low-end QB2.

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
The word serviceable and potential were used a lot to describe Zach Wilson during his rookie season. He definitely had ups and downs, but the New York brass feel he can be their future at the position. The good news is he will get another full season with an upgraded Jets roster to improve his rookie numbers. New York also brought in Mike LaFleur (brother of Matt LaFleur) to run the offense. He has the physical traits including a big arm, athleticism and the ability to buy time and create space in the pocket.

2022 Fantasy Downside
The fantasy numbers were pretty bad for Wilson. He was very overwhelmed at times and had trouble with his accuracy with deep and intermediate routes. With only 9 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions, and never throwing for 300 yards in a game, there was no reason for him to be in any fantasy lineup or even on a roster. The receiving corps was below average last season, but there is reason for optimism in 2022 with several key draft picks at the skill positions.

2022 Bottom Line
The Jets are committed to Wilson and he should improve as he gets more experience. Remember, he really wasn't a prospect at BYU until his senior season and last year was a throw-away season in which he at least got experience. New York will stick with him as a long as he shows improvement. As for fantasy, he might be worth taking in a late round to be your backup if you have a top 5 QB. Expect the numbers to be better in the range of 3,600 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
