Scouting report

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. New Orleans
Zach Wilson showed some signs of life last week throwing for 226 yards and two touchdowns. It was the first time he threw multiple touchdowns in a game since Week 4. Although he doesn't run the ball much, he does also have two rushing touchdowns over the past two games.

Wilson will face the Saints who are ranked 32nd in aFPA to quarterbacks. Couple that together with a very favorable matchup and his performance last week, Wilson is on the fantasy radar, but still should not be in your lineup at this point.

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Atlanta
Zach Wilson's numbers were the best of his young career last Sunday as the Jets won their first game of the season. He completed 62% of his passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns. He looked better in the pocket and was sacked only once after being sacked 15 times the first three weeks. We can expect games like this for Wilson who has talent, but he will still play like a rookie on certain weeks,

Wilson and the Jets head to London to take on Atlanta who is ranked 25th in aFPA to quarterbacks. Despite the favorable matchup, Wilson is still a work in progress and although he moved up to a QB2 status for Week 5, he is still not worthy of a roster spot.

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Carolina

The rookie will make his NFL debut on Sunday and there aren't a lot of expectations. However, he is the man for the Jets so Zach Wilson does carry some fantasy value. New York will let him take his lumps as he adjusts to the NFL which means numbers.

Wilson faces the Panthers who were 15th in aFPA. It will help that he doesn't have to face an elite defense for his first game. It doesn't help that he is on the road and has to face former Jets QB Sam Darnold because we will hear comparisons non-stop.

Wilson will be on your fantasy bench for most season unless he stuns everyone. He is rated a low-end QB so he does have some value as a backuo on certain weeks.

NYJ QB Zach Wilson - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
We know one thing. Zach Wilson will start Week 1 for the Jets. The team didn't bring in a veteran QB and the other guys who play the position on the roster are unknowns. With that said, Wilson looked every bit an NFL quarterback last season at BYU. He threw for 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns and three interceptions. Scouts raved about his ability to make off-platform throws i.e. Patrick Mahomes while throwing the ball downfield with consistency.

Fantasy Downside
Wilson is being thrown into the fire in New York on a franchise that has been considered incompetent and dysfunctional. Yes, there is a new coaching staff and new hope, but it seems the Jets have had issues getting it together for a while. Wilson also was a non-prospect until last season when he broke out with the Cougars which some considered a very soft schedule.

Bottom Line
Wilson has some fantasy value for 2021, mainly because he is already the starter and there is zero competition. The Jets did get him some help offensively but that might be a work in progress. If you are in a keeper league, Wilson is definitely worth having on your roster as a third QB, but you can also get away with him as QB2 if you have a top 4 quarterback. A 4,000 yard passing season is definitely possible with 20+ TD passes which are serviceable numbers for a No. 2 and rookie QB.
