Scouting report

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Seattle Seahawks

Elijah Mitchell had another nice game and full workload against the Vikings last week, rushing for 133 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. He also added 35 yards on five receptions. He’s only had more than two receptions twice this season, but it’s a good sign to see him get more involved in the passing game. He’s definitely “the guy” when healthy, so as long as he’s active in any matchup, he should be worth starting in fantasy.

This week he has a great matchup. Mitchell faces a Seahawks defense that ranks 31st in aFPA to opposing running backs and just gave up over 100 yards to Antonio Gibson on Monday night. We have Mitchell ranked inside our top five running backs this week, and he should be active in all leagues.

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Elijah Mitchell missed the game last week with a finger injury and his status going into Week 12 against the Vikings is questionable. If he starts, he’s an RB2 with the workload he’s gotten whenever active. But have a backup plan – Jeff Wilson – in place, just in case he’s a late scratch. Watch that injury report carefully.

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Jacksonville Jaguars

Elijah Mitchell didn’t find the end zone against the Rams on Monday night, but he did gain 91 yards on 27 carries. Mitchell has been very solid as a starter and as long as he’s healthy and getting a heavy workload, he should continue to produce.

This week, Mitchell faces a Jaguars defense that ranks 22nd in aFPA to opposing running backs. It should be another busy day for Mitchell, and if the 49ers can jump out to a lead again, Mitchell should benefit. We have him ranked as a solid RB2 this week, inside our top 20 backs, and as long as his finger injury doesn’t keep him from playing, he should be active. Watch the injury report though.

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Elijah Mitchell entered the game against the Cardinals last Sunday nicked up, but he played anyway and saw his typically 60-plus percent of the snaps. He was limited to just eight carries and 36 yards on the ground, but added five receptions and 43 yards in a lopsided defeat. The 49ers were forced to throw the ball 40 times. Mitchell has been productive when healthy, so as long as he doesn’t sustain a setback, he should be considered a viable fantasy option moving forward, even with the return of Jeff “The Vulture” Wilson.

This week, Mitchell faces a Rams defense that ranks 16th in aFPA to opposing running backs. With his workload, fantasy managers should consider him a solid RB2 option every week while he’s healthy. That measures up to his ranking this week, as we have him just inside our top 20. Start him.

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Elijah Mitchell had another very strong outing last week against the Bears, gaining 137 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. It was his third 100-plus yard rushing game in just five starts, and his third touchdown of the season as well. Mitchell is firmly in “starter” territory in all leagues as long as he’s healthy.

This week, Mitchell faces a Cardinals defense that ranks fourth in aFPA to opposing running backs. Mitchell is battling a rib injury, so keep an eye on his status heading into the weekend, but if he starts he should be active in all leagues as a viable RB2 option.

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Chicago Bears

Elijah Mitchell is clearly the starter when healthy. He rushed 18 times for 107 yards and a touchdown last week against the Colts and now has two 100-plus yard days in just four games played. While it’s always concerning to see the number of interesting running backs on the San Francisco depth chart, it’s time to face the fact that Mitchell is this team’s preferred option in the backfield, and treat him accordingly.

This week, he’ll face a Bears defense that ranks fifth in aFPA to opposing running backs. With a high floor based on workload, Mitchell should be considered a solid RB2 option in most leagues. Start him.

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Elijah Mitchell led the 49ers’ backfield in his return from injury before the bye last week. However, with Trey Lance at the helm, Mitchell still had just nine carries and two receptions for 62 yards. Mitchell looked clearly better than Trey Sermon, so fantasy managers should be sure to roster him if anyone dropped or drops him, and you have to think those 11 touches are a floor for him as long as he’s healthy.

This week, he gets a tough matchup against the Colts, who rank fifth in aFPA to opposing running backs. Still, a likely full workload should make him a quality start. We have him ranked as a fringe RB1 this week and he should be active in all leagues. Just make sure to triple-check the injury report before game time.
