Scouting report

NE QB Mac Jones - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Miami Dolphins

Mac Jones nearly led a comeback last week against the Bengals, throwing for 240 yards and two touchdowns, only his second multi-touchdown game of the season. This week, it's a must-win game against the Dolphins. In Week 1, Jones went 21/30 for 213 yards, one touchdown and an interception. That's pretty much been about the average for Jones this season, so while you wouldn't trust him as a top option, he's an okay QB2 option as Miami is allowing the second-most fantasy points to quarterbacks.

NE QB Mac Jones - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Mac Jones had a favorable matchup against a struggling Raiders pass defense and went on to complete just 42% of his passes for 112 yards. This week, it's on to Cincinnati, one of the hottest teams in the NFL. At this point, is Jones really someone you'd want to trust in the fantasy playoffs, regardless of opponent? And especially when that opponent is Cincinnati? And there are also rumors of Bailey Zappe returning to the starting lineup. You might want to shy away here.

NE QB Mac Jones - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Las Vegas Raiders

Mac Jones went 24/35 for 235 yards Monday against the Cardinals, but that was it. Of course, the Patriots didn't have to do too much in the air as their rushing attack, even with Rhamondre Stevenson, did most of the dirty work in the desert. As a result, Jones isn't asked to do too much. It also doesn't help that the offensive coordinator continues to be a roller coaster, to say the least. This week, the Patriots visit another desert of sorts, Las Vegas. While the Raiders can get after the quarterback, they boast the worst pass defense by DVOA metrics. Hopefully, Jones gets Jakobi Meyers back this week, especially after losing DeVante Parker on Monday (why the game wasn't immediately stopped is still baffling). Jones is a middling QB2 as a result in Vegas.

NE QB Mac Jones - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Arizona Cardinals

For the third time in five games, Mac Jones failed to reach 200 passing yards. New England remains a run-first team, limiting the passing game. And that passing game may be limited even more if Jakobi Meyers can't play on Monday after suffering a concussion last week. Jones is a middling QB2 against Arizona who does rank 25th in pass defense DVOA.

NE QB Mac Jones - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Buffalo Bills

Mac Jones somehow got into a shootout with Kirk Cousins on Thanksgiving and nearly came away with the victory. He hit 382 yards, only his second 300-yard game this season and scored his first multi-touchdown game this season. This Thursday presents a tougher challenge against the Bills, though he won't have to worry about Von Miller. Still, even after his Thanksgiving feast, there probably isn't room for dessert this Thursday.

NE QB Mac Jones - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. New York Jets

Jones now has two complete games under his belt since his early-season injury. He has yet to crack 200 yards since his return as the Patriots have really become a run-first team. One of those games was against the Jets, where he threw for 194 yards and a touchdown. The Jets are fierce on defense and want this rematch bad, so couple that with the Patriots commitment to the run and Jones is a borderline QB2 coming off the bye.

NE QB Mac Jones - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Mac Jones returned to full-time status as the Patriots quarterback, throwing 35 passes against the Jets but only coming up with 194 yards as the Patriots have been establishing the run more of late. Jones has just three touchdown passes versus seven interceptions, with at least one in every game he has started. Even with six teams on a bye, Jones is still hard to trust from a fantasy perspective, though he is facing a Colts pass defense ranked 20th in DVOA.
