JAX RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Carolina Panthers

D'Ernest Johnson had no role at all for the Jaguars in Week 16 once they fell behind big to the Buccaneers. He carried the ball once for 2 yards. His carries have gone down in each of his last four games and he has gone two full games without seeing a single target.

The Panthers are a pretty good matchup for fantasy running backs, ranking 19th in aPFA, but Johnson's lack of opportunities makes him a player that should not be in your lineups in Week 17. It can even be questioned as to whether he should be on your benches.

JAX RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

D'Ernest Johnson did nothing with the few opportunities sent his way against the Ravens, rushing twice for five yards. After back-to-back games with seven carries in Weeks 11 and 12, Johnson has a combined 10 carries over his last three games.

Johnson's lack of opportunity allied with a matchup against the top-ranked team in aFPA to running backs this season makes him a player that you should in no way feel like starting in Week 16.

JAX RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Baltimore Ravens

Despite Travis Etienne’s inefficiency, D’Ernest Johnson remains a distant second in terms of backfield work for the Jaguars. Johnson had three carries for 12 yards and two catches for 16 more last week, finishing with 3.8 Half-PPR points and as RB48.

Johnson’s small part, coupled with a less than ideal matchup, makes him a player that fantasy managers should not have to start this week. If you do, and expect more than distant RB5 numbers from him, you’re likely to be disappointed.

JAX RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Cleveland Browns

D'Ernest Johnson remained a bit part player for the Jaguars in Week 13, rushing five times for four yards and catching his sole target for five more. He only managed 1.4 Half-PPR points.

The Browns rank eighth in aFPA to running backs this season, making this a matchup to steer away from at the best of times. With no Trevor Lawrence in the lineup and Travis Etienne in his way, Johnson is a long way away from being a player you need to start in fantasy football.

Week 13 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

D'Ernest Johnson continues to work behind Travis Etienne in the Jaguars backfield, although he does seem to make at least one big play a week. In Week 12, his seven rushing attempts only garnered 19 yards, but Johnson's sole reception went for 42, giving him 6.6 Half-PPR points for the week.

Johnson has a pretty good matchup against the Bengals, but he is not really seeing enough opportunities to make him fantasy-relevant. If you need anything more than RB4 production from him in Week 13, you're likely to be disappointed.

JAX RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Houston Texans

D'Ernest Johnson has seemingly overtaken Tank Bigsby as the guy behind Travis Etienne. He saw seven attempts in Week 11, posting just 20 rushing yards, but he also took his only target 34 yards. He managed just 5.9 Half PPR points, but he now looks like the guy to roster in fantasy should anything happen to Etienne.

Until and unless something happens to Etienne, it's hard to attach too much standalone fantasy value to Johnson, even with a middling opponent like the Texans. He's someone who should be on your roster, but not your starting lineup.

CLE RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Patriots

D'Ernest Johnson looks likely to be thrust into the lead role once again with Nick Chubb dealing with COVID-19 and Kareem Hunt on injured reserve. Johnson looked highly impressive against the Broncos back in Week 7, rushing 22 times for 146 yards and a touchdown while catching both of his targets for 22 yards.

Johnson has a good matchup against a Patriots defense that ranks 22nd in aFPA. The Browns have the best running game in football, ranking 3rd in Adjusted Line Yards and 1st in rush DVOA. You have to love the volume and situation for Johnson, so fire him up as an upside RB2 in this spot.
