CLE RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Broncos

D'Ernest Johnson takes over as the lead back for the Browns with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt out for this game. Johnson has shown minor flashes throughout his brief NFL career, namely against the Cowboys last season, where he rushed 13 times for 95 yards. While he'll likely cede passing game touches to Demetric Felton, Johnson should get 15+ touches in this spot.

Johnson goes up against a Broncos defense that ranks 9th in aFPA to running backs, but this Browns' team has a dominant running game. We have seen how strong running games can remain successful even with the backup playing. Cleveland ranks 2nd with 5.04 Adjusted Line Yards, which demonstrates their strong run-blocking. Johnson has upside FLEX appeal in this game.

CLE RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Pittsburgh Steelers
D'Ernest Johnson operated as Kareem Hunt's clear backup in Week 5 by notching eight carries and a reception on 22 snaps. Johnson's workload was also inflated by Hunt missing snaps in the fourth quarter due to cramping. Johnson will have a change-of-pace role in the Cleveland offense for however long Nick Chubb is sidelined, but he cannot be started in fantasy with Hunt dominating the backfield work for the time being.

CLE RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Indianapolis Colts
D'Ernest Johnson will take on a larger role for Cleveland due to Nick Chubb's absence, but he does not project as a starting option for fantasy purposes. Johnson received 13 carries after Chubb left, but some of those were likely due to the fact that Kareem Hunt was also limited by a groin injury. Hunt should be the clear lead back in this backfield, but Johnson is worth a look on waivers in deep leagues as he should get some weekly carries for as long as Chubb is sidelined.

CLE RB D'Ernest Johnson - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Los Angeles Rams

D'Ernest Johnson saw added some playing time last week as Dontrell Hilliard was sidelined with injury. Hilliard is back practicing, but Johnson has played well to open the season. Either way, though, this is Nick Chubb's backfield. Johnson isn't a great option without Hilliard, and with Hilliard, it's hard to see enough yards there to make him fantasy relevant.
