LAR WR Van Jefferson - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at New Orleans Saints

Van Jefferson has struggled since his return from injury in Week 8. Through his first three games, Jefferson has seen just eight targets turning them into 3-27-1. Jefferson was able to find the end zone late in the fourth quarter vs. the Cardinals. However, a bigger issue for Jefferson was he ended up playing behind Skowronek and saw just three targets on the day. Now with Cooper Kupp gone, all the wide receivers should see more work, but until we see how this all plays out, it is best to avoid starting any of these wide receivers in fantasy.

LAR WR Van Jefferson - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Van Jefferson hasn’t done anything in the stat sheet since returning to action after the bye. Currently, he has zero receptions on five targets through two games. The good news for fantasy owners is Jefferson saw five targets in Week 9 after seeing zero in Week 8. This came without seeing a major uptick in his underlying usage. In Week 8, Jefferson ran a route on 23 of 36 (64%) Matthew Stafford drop-backs. That number dropped to 16 of 31 (51%) in Week 9. This matched incumbent WR3 Ben Skowronek in routes that week. This should raise some eyebrows as Jefferson made a critical drop in that game. Of the two wide receivers, Jefferson offers much more as a field stretcher with his elite speed, but until we see more consistency in his usage, Jefferson can be left on benches/waivers for the time being.

LAR WR Van Jefferson - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Van Jefferson made his long-awaited debut in Week 8 vs. the 49ers. Jefferson failed to make a catch in the game, but the good news for his fantasy owners was he didn’t suffer any setbacks. Even though Jefferson failed to record a target, he did immediately see significant playing time. Jefferson ran 23 routes on 36 Matthew Stafford drop-backs. More importantly, Jefferson ran more routes than fellow WR3 Ben Skowronek (23-17). This gap should only continue to grow as Jefferson gets healthier which should open more opportunities in the coming weeks. This immediate insertion does make Jefferson a solid pickup and stash moving forward. However, until we see Jefferson produce in the box score, he is best left on benches for the time being.

LAR WR Van Jefferson - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. San Francisco 49ers

A player to take a flier on this week is Van Jefferson. Jefferson isn’t a recommended start vs. a tough 49ers DST, but he’s worth a stash to see if he can offer a spark to this Rams passing game. In his second season in the league, Jefferson took a big time leap in production. This includes seeing his receptions jump from 19 to 50, his receiving yards jump from 220 to 802, and his TDs rise from one to six. Typically, when players make a statistical jump in year two, we see another leap in year three. If Jefferson can make another jump over the second half of 2022, he will find himself in the WR3 conversation on a weekly basis.

LAR WR Van Jefferson - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
The 26-year-old Van Jefferson saw a big increase in production during his sophomore NFL season. He more than doubled his reception total (50) and quadrupled his receiving yardage (802 yards) while recording six touchdown catches. He had a stretch from Week 7 to 13 where he saw at least six targets per game. Jefferson is a big-play threat whenever he is on the field, ranking seventh among all wideouts with an average of 16 yards per reception.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Jefferson remains the clear WR3 with Allen Robinson joining the Rams this offseason. Even with Robert Woods missing eight games last season, Jefferson only managed a 14.8% target share, 64th among all wide receivers. With Cooper Kupp demanding a 30% target share and a healthy Cam Akers in the backfield, the opportunities for Jefferson remain very limited. Jefferson also is dealing with a knee issue, so fantasy managers may want to hold off investing in him until there's more information about his availability this season.

2022 Bottom Line
Jefferson is an explosive talent in a great offense, but his fantasy upside remains limited. His lack of weekly production even with an 80% snap share during the middle weeks of the season was concerning. Jefferson cannot be trusted on a weekly basis in redraft leagues, and is likely just a late-round best ball option.

LAR WR Van Jefferson - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Baltimore Ravens

OBJ has four touchdowns over his past five games and has a chance to collect another against the worst pass defense in the NFL. Injuries continue to plague the Ravens and even if the secondary gets some pieces back, the Rams have one of the best passing attacks in the league. Beckham is a WR2 that has touchdown upside based on his role with the Rams.

LAR WR Van Jefferson - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Minnesota Vikings

Jefferson is coming off his worst performance since Week 6’s 3-19-0 line. Jefferson also has consecutive two reception games, his lowest total over two games since Weeks 5-6. Good thing Minnesota is on the schedule for Week 16. The Vikings are the most generous defense to opposing wideouts and offer a get-right spot for L.A.’s breakout receiver.
