Scouting report

STL RB Tre Mason - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16: Mason vs. Giants
Tre Mason rushed 13 times for 33 yards while also losing a fumble in the Rams’ Week 15 loss to the Cardinals. He was facing fantasy’s No. 1 defense against running backs so Mason’s dud performance isn’t alarming, although the fumble was soft and lead to points for the Cardinals. He ranks as our No. 14 overall RB in Week 16 and has a good matchup against a New York defense that has struggled against the run this season. View Mason as a RB2 for this week.

STL RB Tre Mason - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15: Mason vs. Cardinals
Tre Mason rushed 20 times for 66 yards in the Rams' Week 14 win over the Redskins. It was a disappointing start for Mason owners considering he had a breakout performance the week before, but the important thing is that he remains entrenched as the RB1 in St. Louis. He has a tough matchup on Thursday night against an Arizona team that owns the No. 1 fantasy defense versus RBs this season. We have him ranked as the No. 14 overall RB for Week 15 so view him as a mid-range RB2 for this week.

STL RB Tre Mason - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14: Mason vs. Redskins
Tre Mason had his coming out party in Week 13 as he rushed 14 times for 117 yards with two touchdowns and also caught three passes for 47 yards and an addition score as the Rams lit up the Raiders, 52-0. After taking a short pass 35 yards to the house on the Rams’ opening offensive possession, Mason added an 89-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter and then an 8-yard TD run in the fourth to cap off the best performance of his young career. Entrenched as St. Louis’ featured back, Mason can be viewed as a solid RB2 moving forward. He’s our No. 12 overall RB for Week 14.

STL RB Tre Mason - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13: Mason vs. Raiders
Tre Mason rushed 16 times for 62 yards and also added one reception for an additional 26 yards in the Rams' Week 12 loss to the Chargers. It was evident the Rams wanted to back off Mason after he carried the ball a career-high 29 times against Denver the week before, but he remains the St. Louis back to own in fantasy. Mason will remain the starter and has RB2 appeal moving forward. He's the most productive back on St. Louis' depth chart and his role in the offense should continue to grow in the final five games. Mason ranks as our No. 13 overall RB for Week 13 and is safe to start in a RB2 role.

STL RB Tre Mason - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12: Mason vs. Chargers
Tre Mason rushed 29 times for 113 yards and also caught one-of-two targets for one yard as the Rams shocked the Broncos in Week 11. While the yards-per-carry average is a bit skewed at 3.90, Mason was highly effective against one of the best run defenses in the league. The 29 carries were 10 more than his previous total, which was 19 in a win over the 49ers in Week 9. The good news for fantasy owners is that the Rams have ostensibly settled on Mason, who gives the team more burst than Zac Stacy and Benny Cunningham. We feel confident in recommending Mason as a RB2 moving forward.

STL RB Tre Mason - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11: Mason vs. Broncos
Tre Mason rushed 14 times for 48 yards and added four catches on six targets in the Rams’ Week 10 loss to the Cardinals. Despite the low yardage total, Mason did have several effective runs against a tough Arizona run defense but Benny Cunningham was the goal line back when the Rams scored in the first quarter. While he remains the RB to own in St. Louis, Mason’s fantasy value is suppressed by an ineffective running game and poor quarterback play. It’s safe to project another 15-20 touches for Mason this Sunday but he has another challenging matchup versus a Denver defense that has allowed the seventh fewest yards among fantasy running backs this season. He ranks as our No. 24 overall RB for Week 11, which makes him a low-end RB2 in deeper leagues.

STL RB Tre Mason - Week 10, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10: Mason vs. Cardinals
Tre Mason rushed 19 times for 65 yards while catching 1-of-2 targets for negative 8 yards in the Rams’ Week 9 win over the 49ers. After rushing only seven times in a loss to Kansas City in Week 8, Mason made his first start of the season and continues to look like the featured back in St. Louis. While Jeff Fisher continues to state that the Rams will use a committee at running back, Mason is clearly the Rams back to own. Due to a difficult matchup this week against Arizona, the rookie ranks as our No. 25 overall RB for Week 10 but his stock is on the rise.
