2022 Fantasy Upside
The Chiefs drafted Skyy Moore in the second round and he joins an interesting group. Kansas City lost three of its top four wide receivers in the offseason in Tyreek Hill, Byron Pringle, and Demarcus Robinson. That leaves a lot of available targets, and Moore being a 2nd-round pick carries some weight. In fact, Moore had a draft position over/under of 35.5, so many thought he could be a fringe 1st-round pick. He played well at Western Michigan, finishing last season with 95-1,292 yards-10 in 12 games. He’s a speedy (4.41 40) and athletic receiver who can run routes well, and make people miss in the open field. He was tied for first with 26 forced missed tackles in 2021, per PFF.
2022 Fantasy Downside
While the Chiefs did have some big departures at WRs this offseason, they also brought in JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The Chiefs also retained Mecole Hardman (693 yards last season) and Travis Kelce. While Moore should see solid playing time, he still figures to be lower in the pecking order when it comes to targets. And even though Moore played three seasons as a WR at Western Michigan, he’s someone who converted from a quarterback and defensive back. Before the NFL Draft, Moore said he never caught a pass until he changed positions at Western Michigan. And now he’s adjusting from the MAC to the NFL.
2022 Bottom Line
There’s a lot to like with Moore. He’s a talented receiver who can do a lot with the ball after the catch. The thing with Moore is trying to figure out just how many catches he’s going to get. The Chiefs added Smith-Schuster on a 1-year deal, so it’s possible Moore plays more of a limited role as a rookie and then steps into a bigger role in Year 2 if Smith-Schuster leaves. But the Chiefs didn’t spend a 2nd-round pick for nothing. Moore will be in the rotation and we have him projected to finish with at least 600 receiving yards. He’s someone who should be on fantasy radars as a late-round draft pick. He should be viewed as a low-end WR4 or a WR5 with upside.
