Scouting report

ATL WR Russell Gage - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs Bears

Gage has been one of the surprises of the early portion of the season with 160 yards and a touchdown in two weeks. If Julio Jones is limited, Gage could continue to see an increased role after playing almost 83 percent of the snaps last week against Dallas. He makes an appearance inside our top 50 WRs at No. 46.

ATL WR Russell Gage - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In Week 16, Gage played 51% of snaps, finished with five receptions on six targets for 49 scoreless yards, 49 air yards, 13% of the team targets, and 13% of the team air yards.

The Falcons are out of the playoff picture but they were essentially out of the picture after a 1-7 start to their season. Monitor Week 17 news closely, but the Falcons are planning on playing their starters at the time of writing this blurb. It is unknown how long the starters will play but the starters could play the majority of the game if it stays competitive. This matchup has one of the highest over/unders (48) of the week.

Tampa Bay’s defense is third-worst against wide receivers, per our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Gage ranked as a half PPR WR4. Gage is a risky start but does have a plus matchup in the final week of the season.

ATL WR Russell Gage - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
In Week 15, Gage played 76% of snaps, finished with five receptions on six targets for 27 scoreless yards, 8 air yards, 15% of the team targets, and 4% of the team air yards.

With the absence of Calvin Ridley, Gage could have had a higher target share but Julio Jones transformed into a black hole and finished with 20 targets. Jacksonville’s defense is eighth-best against wide receivers, per our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Gage ranked as the half PPR WR53. Gage is an extremely risky start in fantasy championships.

ATL WR Russell Gage - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at San Francisco 49ers
In Week 14, Gage played 51% of snaps, finished with two receptions on four targets for 17 scoreless yards, 19 air yards, 12% of the team targets, and 6% of the team air yards.

Gage should see his usage increase since Calvin Ridley has been ruled out for the rest of the season. However, Gage is in a difficult road matchup against the 49ers who are seventh-best against wide receivers, per our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Gage ranked as the half PPR WR59. Better streaming options should be available for semifinal matchups.

ATL WR Russell Gage - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Carolina Panthers
In Week 13, Gage finished with five receptions on nine targets for 52 yards, and a touchdown. Gage benefitted from the absence of Julio Jones and Austin Hooper. Both players are expected back this week, which will limit Gage’s usage. The Panthers are 16th against wide receivers, per our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Gage ranked as the half PPR WR60.

ATL WR Russell Gage - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. New Orleans Saints
In Week 12, Gage played 74% of snaps, finished with eight receptions on ten targets for 76 scoreless yards, 76 air yards, 18% of the team targets, and 14% of the team air yards.

The Saints are third-best against wide receivers, per our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Gage ranked as a low-end half PPR WR4. Austin Hooper will remain sidelined with a knee injury and Julio Jones missed practice on Monday and Tuesday. Monitor Julio’s injury status closely because Gage’s usage would increase if Julio is ruled out.

ATL WR Russell Gage - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In Week 11, Gage continued to be used as the number three wide receiver for the Falcons. He played 48% of snaps, finished with two receptions on four targets for 32 scoreless yards, 22 air yards, 12% of the team targets, and 8% of the team air yards.

Tampa Bay is dead last against wide receivers, per our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Gage ranked as a half PPR WR5. Better options should be available on the waiver wire, but Gage can be a desperation start in deep leagues with full PPR scoring.
