Scouting report

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Atlanta Falcons

Rachaad White saw the same number of carries as Bucky Irving in Week 4. Are we heading towards a running-back-by-committee approach in Tampa? It sure feels that way. White has the slight edge in the passing game, but at this point, it's near even between the two and both should be viewed as flex plays against the Falcons.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The gap between Rachaad White and Bucky Irving seems to be closing quickly. White has just 66 rushing yards and is averaging 2.1 yards per carry through three games. The rookie Irving has been gaining momentum and is out-rushing White 154-66. White remains the starter but if he doesn't bounce back soon, it's nothing for the Bucs to shift to Irving as the lead back.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Detroit Lions

Rachaad White looks like he'll once again be a nice part of the Buccaneers' passing game. White caught six passes for 75 yards in Week 1 against the Commanders. He'll clean up the rushing attack -- just 31 yards on 15 carries. The Lions held Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers to 66 yards on 20 carries in Week 1. But given the receiving value White brings, he remains a solid RB2 option for Week 2.

TB RB Rachaad White - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Only one running back touched the football more in 2023 than Rachaad White and that was Christian McCaffrey. That helped White to an RB5 finish in 2023 after totaling over 1,500 yards and nine touchdowns. That included 64 catches for 549 yards and three touchdowns. White remains the RB1 in Tampa behind what should be an improved offensive line with the addition of center Graham Barton via the draft.

Fantasy Downside

The Bucs did add Bucky Wright in the fourth round of the draft this year, so he may get some work throughout the season. Will the Bucs also give White a high workload again? He had 336 touches but was also 48th (out of 59 eligible backs) in Pro Football Focus' rushing grade.

2024 Bottom Line

White is still the lead back for the Buccaneers. That alone gives him plenty of value. Could his touches come down? Sure. But he should still see at least 250-275 touches if the Bucs want to work in Wright. He's at least an RB2 with RB1 upside.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs New Orleans Saints

Rachaad White struggled to find much running room last week as he ran 20 times for 39 yards (1.95 ypc). But he had a good fantasy outing as he scored a touchdown and finished 6-38 on seven targets. White got off to a bit of a slow start this year, but since Week 9 he's basically been a touchdown machine scoring in every game but one. In fact, in that span, only Christian McCaffrey has scored more fantasy points at the running back position. White will look to continue his success this week in a favorable matchup vs. the Saints (23rd aFPA). White finished with 78 scrimmage yards when he faced the Saints earlier in the year. He'll be a must-start RB1 option in Week 17.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Rachaad White had a huge game last week, rushing 21 times for 89 yards while catching two passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. White has scored a touchdown in six of his last seven games, and he's had at least 20 carries in five games during that span. White has been one of the most productive backs in fantasy in recent weeks, and that should continue in Week 16 vs. the Jaguars (18th aFPA). White should be viewed as a top five option at RB this week.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Green Bay Packers

The Bucs leaned heavily on Rachaad White last week as he had a season-high 25 carries. White finished with 102 yards on the ground, while adding two catches for 33 yards and a touchdown as a receiver. Ever since Week 9, White has been extremely productive. In that six game span, White has averaged 18.2 carries and 3.2 catches while scoring six total touchdowns. He's been the RB1 in every major scoring setting in that span, yes even higher than Christian McCaffery. He gets a good matchup this week against the Packers (21st aFPA) where he should be viewed as a must-start RB1.
