Scouting report

SF WR Pierre Garcon - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Carolina Panthers

As the only real proven receiver in the 49ers offense, Pierre Garcon should see plenty of targets. And plenty of attention. It wouldn't be surprising to see Garcon receive 10 targets per week. That should be enough volume to make him a solid No. 2 option with some obvious upside each week. He's the clear No. 1 receiver in this offense.

SF WR Pierre Garcon - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Pierre Garcon is the only proven receiving option on the San Francisco roster and is clearly the team's No. 1 receiver.

Fantasy Downside

Is there a No. 2 option to take pressure off him or will opponents be able to double him without worrying about anyone else?

2017 Bottom Line

Even though he's new to the 49ers, Garcon is familiar with the offense. And as he showed last season in Washington, where he posted a line of 79-1,041-3, he can still get open. His overall numbers might even see an uptick this season since he'll likely be force-fed the ball. You don't typically want running backs from bad teams, but receivers are fine since they're playing from behind a lot and against prevent-type defenses. Garcon should produce enough to be solid as a low-end No. 2 fantasy receiver. If he were more of a proven scoring threat—37 touchdowns in nine seasons—he might be even higher.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 17, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. New York Giants
Pierre Garcon continues to play well over the second half of the season. Last week, he caught four balls for 94 yards on nine targets. Over his last four games, he has at least 59 yards receiving or a TD.

Garcon gets a nice ranking this week, coming in ahead of Jamison Crowder for the first time in a few weeks. Garcon is ranked 36th, making him a lower-end WR3 option. The Giants are 15th in allowing fantasy points to WRs, but don't have anything to play for this week, while the Skins need a win to get in the playoffs. Garcon seems like a solid, deep league option.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 16, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Chicago
Pierre Garcon had another solid fantasy game last week, catching seven balls for 78 yards last week. He was targeted 11 times which led all WRs.

Garcon, DeSean Jackson and Jamison Crowder are all pretty close right now in terms of fantasy production and seem to alternate week-to-week between who is the better play. With Jordan Reed banged up, this has been especially true. We have Garcon ranked third among the Skin WRs this week. It's a pretty good matchup, as the Bears are 21st in allowing fantasy points to WRs, but we still trust Crowder and Jackson a little more and predict better fantasy days for those guys.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 15, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Carolina
Pierre Garcon has continued his productive play as of late. Last week, he had five catches for 59 yards and a TD. It was his third TD of the season, but second in four weeks. Garcon is a bit of a forgotten man in terms of Washington WRs, but he's been slowly climbing our rankings each week. The problem is there are just too many targets on the Skins offense.

This week, Garcon is again behind DeSean Jackson and Jamison Crowder, as he's all the way down our WR list at 47th. We still think Jackson and Crowder are better plays but Garcon sure seems to fall into the sneaky category. He also gets a great matchup this week, as the Panthers are 28th in allowing fantasy points to WRs.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 14, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Philadelphia
Pierre Garcon stood out the most last week, catching seven balls for 78 yards against the Cards. Garcon is still the team's WR3 as far as our depth chart goes, and ranks just 46th on our WR list this week, so we don't see him as a great play. Something to keep in mind is Garcon has had some success against Philly, and over his last two games has 13 catches for 157 and a TD on 23 total targets. The Eagles are 25th in allowing fantasy points to WRs.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 11, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Green Bay
With DeSean Jackson out, Pierre Garcon had a nice day catching six ball for 88 yards to lead the way among Redskin receivers last week against the Vikings. But it was guys like Jamison Crowder and Vernon Davis who stole the TDs.

As a result of all those targets on the team, and despite a pretty good performance last week, Garcon's comes in at 40th on our WR list this week. The matchup with the Packers is a pretty good one, as Green Bay is just 29th in allowing fantasy points to WRs. But starting Garcon comes with risks outside of deeper leagues, and chances are it's Crowder or Jordan Reed who will have better fantasy days.
