Scouting report

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. San Francisco
Miles Sanders was very much involved with the Eagles offense in Week 1 with 19 touches that produced 113 total yards. He did not score a touchdown which was the downside of his performance. However, it is a good sign how the new regime will use him moving forward this season.

The Eagles will have a much tougher matchup against the 49ers albeit at home. San Francisco has a top 10 defense and is especially strong against the run. Sanders will have a much tougher time duplicating his numbers from last Sunday.

Sanders should still get touches which means he has fantasy relevance again. He is ranked a low-end RB2 for Week 2. Start him in all leagues and formats. He will continue to have more value in PPR leagues because of his use in the passing game.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Atlanta
Miles Sanders will be the featured back for the Eagles and could play on all three downs. His rushing numbers last year were very similar to 2019, but he played three fewer games. Where he went backward is in the passing game where he was very limited in 2020. If he can get more involved with the Philly passing game, his stock rises.

Sanders will face a Falcons defense that was ranked 3rd in aFPA to running backs last season. It's not the best matchup for the Eagles offense but Sanders should get 16-20 touches.

Start Sanders in all leagues and formats but as a low-end RB2. We might have to watch for a couple of weeks to see how the new offense evolves and how Sanders is utilized.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Miles Sanders has eclipsed 1,000 yards from scrimmage each of his first two seasons as the Eagles were very focused on using their running backs in the passing game. He is considered one of the most exciting backs in the NFL. Sanders started 11 games as a rookie in 2019, accumulating 818 rushing yards, three rushing TDs, 50 receptions for 509 receiving yards, along with three receiving TDs. This is an example of what he is capable of if he is healthy.

Fantasy Downside
2020 was a roller coaster for Sanders as he missed four games because of injury and was banged up during many of the games he did play. His rushing numbers were still good, but his receiving numbers were way down last season compared to 2019. Many fantasy owners drafted Sanders with high expectations and they were disappointed he never lived up to those expectations. The Eagles also brought in free agent back Kerryon Johnson and drafted Kenneth Gainwell. Veteran Boston Scott also returns so all three could take some touches to try to keep Sanders healthy.

Bottom Line
If Sanders is healthy, he will still be the featured back in both the running and passing game. However, we do expect his numbers to remain similar to the past two years. The one area he should improve is touchdowns as he had six touchdowns each of the last two seasons. Be careful where you get Sanders in the draft. He is going in the late third to early fourth round and that is too early based on his numbers and situation. He should be your third running back on your roster. That's where his value is highest.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Washington
UPDATE: Miles Sanders has been ruled out for Week 17 for a knee injury.

Miles Sanders continues to get between 17-20 touches every game and the fantasy numbers have been good for the most part. Last Sunday, he had 84 total yards from scrimmage and a touchdown. The Eagles have a lot of confidence in Sanders as evidenced by the fact he has become the primary back. In recent years, they have used a running back-by-committee approach.

Sanders will face Washington who is ranked 9th in aFPA to running backs. With the Eagles eliminated from the postseason, Philly will still rely on their healthy skill players which includes Sanders, plus they finish the season on national TV with a chance to knock Washington out of the playoffs.

Start Sanders as a low-end RB2 for Week 17. He should still get at least 15 touches, but Washington's defense has been very good over the last month, and we expect a low-scoring game between the two teams.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Dallas
Miles Sanders had 18 touches for the second straight week although his total numbers weren't as good. What we are seeing is his role in the offense has returned to what it was earlier in the season. He still had 90 total yards which will work every week if he can add some scores as he did two weeks ago when he scored two touchdowns.

It's a great matchup this week against Dallas who is 25th in aFPA to running backs. He did not play in the first meeting with the Cowboys earlier this season, but did have 156 total yards and a touchdown in a late meeting in 2019.

Start Sanders as solid RB1 for Week 16 in all leagues and formats. We expect him to have a big game with a minimum of 18 touches again and against the Dallas defense which has plenty of holes.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Arizona
Miles Sanders rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns last week against a very good Saints defense. He ended up with a total of 18 touches on the day and was one of the best fantasy backs for Week 14. His workload will continue with Jalen Hurts at quarterback.

Sanders faces the Cardinals who are ranked 14th in aFPA to running backs. As long as he stays on the field, his fantasy numbers will be there.

Start Sanders as a low-end RB1 for Week 15 in all leagues and formats. The change at quarterback raised his stock because of the ability to run more RPOs with Hurts.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. New Orleans
The fact that Miles Sanders only had 10 touches last week shows how dysfunctional the Eagles offense has become. With Carson Wentz now on the bench and Jalen Hurts the starter, for now, the Eagles should be able to stabilize a gameplan that will include regular usage of Sanders. He is their best overall offensive weapon.

Sanders faces the Saints who are ranked first in aFPA to running backs. So, not exactly the best matchup to get Sanders going, but Philly still needs to get him touches even if it is tough sledding.

Sanders ranks as a high-end RB3 or flex for Week 14. The Eagles offense will struggle which pushes Sanders down the rankings, but if he is back to 15-18 touches, he should at least contribute something to your fantasy team.
