Scouting report

by Brandon Niles

BAL WR Michael Campanaro - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Michael Campanaro showed a few splashes of talent as a rookie last season, including a three catch, 40-yard game against the Bengals in late October. He was ultimately buried on the depth chart, however, and finished the year with just seven catches, 102 yards and a touchdown. He’ll fight for a role in the slot this year.

Fantasy Upside
Campanaro is a sure-handed player who showed he can run good routes and find holes in the defense despite limited opportunities. He also has a great chance to earn a role in the Ravens return game. If he wins the WR3 spot and the RS job, Campanaro will become fantasy relevant in his second year in the league.

Fantasy Downside
It’s still an uphill battle for Campanaro and he has a limited ceiling. He isn’t guaranteed to win the WR3 job over Kamar Aiken and Marlon Brown and even if he does, it’s not likely to turn into a starting role for him. There’s really only so much value you can get out of a slot receiver in Baltimore, even with a new pass-happy offense being installed.

Bottom Line
Fantasy owners should consider Campanaro a late-round flier in deeper leagues a stash in dynasty leagues. Even within those parameters, there will be other players who possess more upside. The fact that he looked good in limited reps bodes well for the 24-year-old in the long run, but he’s still not ready for prime time yet. Keep an eye on Campanaro, but watch him while he’s on waivers and not on your roster.

BAL WR Michael Campanaro - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 – Michael Campanaro vs. Pittsburgh

Michael Campanaro has been getting more and more looks in recent weeks, and he finished with three catches and 40 yards against the Bengals on Sunday. Campanaro seems to be getting a little of teammate Steve Smith Sr.’s physical attitude as an undersized receiver, which bodes well for the Ravens passing game.

Against Pittsburgh this week, Campanaro may get extra looks with Torrey Smith going through concussion testing right now. Still, it’s hard to view Campanaro as a legit fantasy option with his noteworthy, but still very modest production thus far in his rookie year. He remains an intriguing dynasty add, and he might have some value in very large leagues this week if Torrey Smith is out, but in most cases, he’s probably still a waiver wire guy.

BAL WR Michael Campanaro - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 – Michael Campanaro vs. Cincinnati
Michael Campanaro caught a pass for the second straight week against the Falcons on Sunday, with a 17 yard grab. Campanaro is an undersized, shifty player who has already demonstrated an ability to go up and get the ball despite his diminutive stature. He must be learning from teammate Steve Smith Sr. Until he starts producing more however, he has no fantasy value outside of deep, deep dynasty leagues as a possible stash.

BAL WR Michael Campanaro - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 – Michael Campanaro vs. Atlanta
Michael Campanaro made his first appearance of the season and he caught two passes for 28 yards, including a nice touchdown grab that he hauled down over a taller corner. The short rookie out of Wake Forest must be learning from Steve Smith Sr. how to be an undersized downfield threat. Still, as a player fighting for a spot on the active day roster each week, he’s a risky option for fantasy owners and only has value as a deep, deep stash player in dynasty leagues.
