Scouting report

by Jordan Heck

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 17, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Chicago
Matt Asiata likely won't make much of an impact unless he scores a touchdown. The Vikings lean heavily on their big back near the goal-line, but otherwise don't involved him much in the offense. If you're in a touchdown-heavy league, Asiata might be worth a look, but otherwise he doesn't offer much value.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 16, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Green Bay
Matt Asiata was the goal-line back with Jerick McKinnon playing, but with Adrian Peterson's return, Asiata only had one touch last week. He'll likely continue to be left out of the touches moving forward.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 15, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Indianapolis
Matt Asiata isn't very good, but he does score touchdowns. He's scored in four of his last five games, and if the Vikings get inside of the five-yard line, you can expect he'll get at least one attempt at a score.

Asiata doesn't offer much value outside of leagues that heavily favor touchdowns. He'll go up against a Colts defense that's allowed just two rushing scores over the last six games, so perhaps this isn't a scoring week.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 14, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Jacksonville
Matt Asiata has been held to 30 rushing yards or less in five straight games. He won't be getting enough yards to warrant a fantasy start. His only saving grace is that Minnesota likes using him in goal-line situations.

If you have a strong feeling that Asiata will score this week, then start him. But otherwise, he's not a great option.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 13, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Dallas
If the Vikings get in a goal-line situation, there's a good chance Matt Asiata will run in a touchdown. He has a score in three straight games now, but that's pretty much all he's doing. If you're in a touchdown-heavy league, he's not a bad choice, but he's a risky bet otherwise.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 12, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Detroit
Matt Asiata scored his patented touchdown last week and has now scored two games in a row. If the Vikings are on a goal-line scenario, you can expect Asiata to get the carries. However, he doesn't do much outside of that.

Asiata has now been held under 10 rushing attempts in three straight games and has just four receptions in that span. Asiata is completely goal-line dependent from a fantasy perspective.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 11, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Arizona
It appears Matt Asiata is at the top of Minnesota's three-headed rushing...committee. Usually I'd say attack, but no one in this group has been particularly impressive, especially not last week.

The benefit of Asiata is that he's a big back, so he'll get the goal-line carries, which happened last week. He's not a sexy option, especially this week in a tough matchup, and should be viewed as a low-end RB3 or flex play at best.
