WAS TE Logan Thomas - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
Logan Thomas had a career resurrection in 2020 when he finished as a top-10 tight end in fantasy. It caught people off guard considering the former quarterback had less than 200 yards in every season since becoming a tight end. He continued that success into the start of 2021, averaging 4-39-0.7 in his first three games before suffering an injury and missing the majority of the season. When active, Thomas scored in three of his five games while averaging around 40 yards, which would have put him on pace to essentially repeat his 2020 season. Thomas enters the year as Washington’s starting tight end again, so the opportunity is there for him to continue playing well.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Thomas is 31 heading into this season, which is around when we see tight ends hit their decline. He also has some additional competition as Washington brought in 5th-round draft pick Cole Turner. The Commanders also still have John Bates, who proved he was capable of being a starter filling in for Thomas last season. Speaking of which, Thomas suffered a torn ACL in the middle of last season, so there’s a chance he misses some time at the start of the year.

2022 Bottom Line
When Thomas was active last season, he played really well. He was essentially on pace to repeat his breakout 2020 season, but injuries forced him to miss almost the entire year. If Thomas is able to play at the start of the year, and maintain his role, he’s a steal at his current ADP. But Turner’s arrival, plus Thomas’ age and injury history provide enough red flags to warrant his late-round ADP. He could be worth a flier near the end of fantasy drafts in deeper leagues, but you’ll likely want someone else in your starting lineup in Week 1.
