ARI WR Larry Fitzgerald - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. San Francisco 49ers

Larry Fitzgerald has now had consecutive bad weeks, catching only two balls for eight yards against the Saints on Sunday after only 12 yards against the Giants in Week 7. Fitzgerald continues to be featured and was targeted regularly leading up to the last two games, but it’s concerning to see him take a backseat to Christian Kirk against the Saints.

Fantasy owners should be extra cautious with Fitzgerald this week, as he faces a 49ers defense that has been dominant this year and just shut down the Panthers’ passing offense last week. Expect Fitzgerald to get a few more targets and improve upon his eight yards from a week ago, but he’s still way too risky to trust with Kirk back in the lineup against an elite defense. Sit him if you have better options.

ARI WR Larry Fitzgerald - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at New Orleans Saints

Larry Fitzgerald had only one catch for 12 yards last week as the Cardinals leaned on the rushing attack to defeat a terrible Giants defense. He was targeted only three times, though he was coming off two consecutive games with eight targets. He should continue to get back to being the featured receiver in the offense moving forward, and the lack of volume last week should be considered an aberration.

The Saints are 14th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers, so you can score on them. Fitzgerald should find room to work and the Cardinals are unlikely to abandon the pass like they did last week in what should be a much more competitive game. The Saints run defense is far better than the Giants – ninth in rushing yards allowed per game compared to 26th – so it’s unlikely Arizona will be able to lean on Chase Edmonds so heavily. Fitzgerald should be a solid WR3 option.

ARI WR Larry Fitzgerald - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at New York Giants

Larry Fitzgerald is amazing. Despite being 36 years old he’s still top-20 in the league in both receptions and receiving yards. He’s scored two touchdowns this season and has been targeted an average of 8.7 times per game. Fitzgerald hasn’t racked up yards the last four weeks, but he’s yet to catch fewer than five passes in any game this year and is a high-floor fantasy option in most matchups.

Fitzgerald faces a Giants defense that ranks 26th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers and just allowed nine catches and 113 yards to Julian Edelman last week. The Cardinals and Giants both rank in the bottom six in points allowed per game to opposing teams, giving this game potential for a shootout, despite two struggling teams being involved. Fantasy owners should look for Fitzgerald to put up solid WR2 numbers in what should be a good matchup.

ARI WR Larry Fitzgerald - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Fitzgerald has come down to earth the past couple of weeks after double-digit fantasy points in three straight games to start the season. While he did catch six balls against the Bengals last week, he gained only 58 yards and has averaged just 8.8 yards per reception over his past three games. Fitzgerald is still the most targeted player in the Cardinals offense, however, giving him a high floor in any given game.

Fitzgerald should be active in all leagues this week. He faces a Falcons defense that just allowed five passing touchdowns to the Texans and ranks dead last in aFPA to opposing wide receivers this year. The Cardinals can’t stop anyone either, so this game could wind up being a shootout, which should benefit the Arizona receiving corps. We have Fitzgerald ranked as a WR1 option this week.

ARI WR Larry Fitzgerald - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Cincinnati Bengals

After double-digit PPR points in each of his first three games, Larry Fitzgerald gained only 47 yards on five receptions against the Seahawks last week. The Cardinals struggled to move the ball against a full-strength Seattle defensive line, and Fitzgerald suffered as a result. He still led Arizona wide receivers in receptions and yards, however, and he continues to be the most reliable pass-catching option for the Cardinals.

This week, Fitzgerald faces a Bengals defense that has been very average against the wide receiver position, ranking 14th in aFPA to opposing receivers. Fitzgerald should continue to get targets and will make the most of them this week, however, and since the Cardinals defense can’t stop anyone, it’s hard not to like his chances of having a very busy day.

ARI WR Larry Fitzgerald - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Seattle Seahawks

Larry Fitzgerald only had 36 yards last week against the Panthers, but he caught five balls on seven targets and scored a touchdown for the second time in three games. Fitzgerald clearly has a nice rapport with rookie quarterback Kyler Murray and he should continue to be productive despite being 36 years old.

This week, Fitzgerald faces a Seahawks defense that has actually kept opposing WR1’s reasonably in check through three weeks. Michael Thomas scored a touchdown last week, but he was held to 54 yards on five catches. Expect Fitz to get the bulk of the attention from the Seahawks secondary this week, but to still be a quality WR2 based on the number of targets he gets and the likelihood that the team falls and stays behind. Start him.

ARI WR Larry Fitzgerald - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Carolina Panthers

Larry Fitzgerald had 104 yards on five receptions last week against the Ravens, his second straight game over 100 yards to start the season. Fitzgerald has also racked up five targets inside the 10-yard line – most in the league – and he leads the Cardinals with 24 targets through two games. He seems rejuvenated by the new offense and rookie quarterback and he should be a steady option moving forward.

This week, Fitzgerald faces a Panthers defense that ranks 11th in the league in points allowed to the wide receiver position, and features a young secondary with considerable talent. Fitzgerald should get plenty of targets in the pass-happy offense and if he can use his veteran savvy to find space against an aggressive defensive backfield, he could once again put up quality numbers. We have him as a borderline WR1 this week and he should be active in all leagues.
