Scouting report

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 10, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 – Larry Donnell vs. Seattle

Larry Donnell only had 25 yards last week against the Colts, but he did catch four passes, was targeted eight times, and scored his fifth touchdown on the season. Donnell is a big target and has done a nice job running routes and using his size to get healthy this season. He’s been a pleasant surprise for a Giants team that thought they had a big hole at the position heading into the season.

This week, Donnell faces a Seahawks defense that has slipped this year, but is still very good. They have allowed 14 touchdown passes to opposing offenses so far this year though and they struggle to cover the tight end position when Bobby Wagner spies the opposing backfield. We have Donnell as a top ten start this week and a solid fantasy option in all leagues.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 – Larry Donnell vs. Indianapolis

Larry Donnell has been maddeningly inconsistent, but he remains a primary target in New York. Despite a pair of fumbles, Donnell had seven catches for 90 yards against the Cowboys before the bye last week, and he was tied for second on the team in targets.

This week, Donnell faces a Colts defense that has been much better defending the outside than they’ve been defending the TE position this season and Donnell should have a good chance to score big for fantasy owners. He’s a risky option, as he’s disappeared before in games, but ultimately he seems like he has too much upside to ignore at the position. We have him as a top ten start and he should be active.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 – Larry Donnell vs. Dallas

Larry Donnell turned in the second straight massively disappointing game at the tight end position for the Giants, catching only one pass for six yards in a beat down by the Eagles. Donnell showed such flashes early in the season, but is now struggling to get open and opponents are using press coverage to jolt him out of his route early in the play.

Donnell remains a nice upside guy for fantasy owners needing a tight end, but it’s definitely concerning to see him give owners a big goose egg in consecutive weeks. He’s got a moderately difficult matchup against the Cowboys this week, making him a borderline starter at the tight end position in most leagues.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 – Larry Donnell vs. Philadelphia

Larry Donnell was blanked last week against the Falcons, netting fantasy owners zero points despite what looked to be an attractive matchup. While that’s absolutely concerning for a player still early in his first year of fantasy relevance, the targets and attention he’s been getting up until last week is enough to make us believe he’ll bounce back.

Donnell has a nice matchup again this week against the Eagles, who are giving up 274 yards per game passing to opposing offenses and were torched by Rams last week. Donnell is expected to turn in another top ten stat line for fantasy owners and he should be active in all leagues.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 – Larry Donnell vs. Atlanta

Larry Donnell has been a revelation in New York as a surprisingly effective route runner and he’s shown consistent hands and a knack for getting open in the red zone. He exploded with three touchdowns and 54 yards on seven receptions against Washington last week and has clearly established himself as one of quarterback Eli Manning’s favorite targets.

Atlanta has been very good against the tight end position this season, but with the Giants seemingly figuring out their new offensive scheme and Donnell emerging as a legit red zone threat, it’s hard to sit the surprising second year player out of Grambling. We have him as a top ten play this week, and he should continue to get consistent looks from Manning.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 – Larry Donnell vs. Washington

Larry Donnell had six catches and 45 yards against the Texans in Week 3, but he also coughed up a fumble that could’ve been very costly had the Texans not turned the ball over a bunch too. Donnell continues to be the primary tight end in New York though, and while Daniel Fells stole a touchdown, Donnell had six targets in the game and continues to show a nice rapport with Eli Manning.

This week, Donnell faces a Washington defense that does a pretty good job against the tight end position, but was torched by Nick Foles and the Eagles passing attack last week. Donnell isn’t an elite fantasy option, but he’s an above average option in most leagues and he’s a nice bye week filler for Julius Thomas or Jordan Cameron owners.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 – Larry Donnell vs. Houston

Larry Donnell has been one of the few bright spots for the Giants so far this season. During an offseason of turmoil at the position, it was unknown whether Donnell would hold on to the job, but after a promising Week 1 outing, he had 81 yards on seven receptions against the Cardinals in Week 2, cementing himself as the top guy in New York at the position.

This week, he faces a Texans team that shut down the Raiders offense last week, but allowed some catches to Niles Paul in Week 1. Donnell and the Giants are not yet ready to become consistent fantasy options, but if you waited at the TE position in the draft and are looking for an upside guy to hold on to, you could do worse than Donnell who has been racking up targets from Eli Manning. We have him just outside starter status this week, but he’s got the ability to rise as the season progresses if he keeps this up.
