Scouting report

NE WR Kenbrell Thompkins - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Cincinnati
No word yet on why Thompkins was inactive in Week 5. However this talented, if undeveloped, youngster has been largely ineffective so far in 2014. He has been inactive in weeks 2 & 4, and only sports a 6-53 line in the other two games. There is theoretical upside with Thompkins, but as a 4th or 5th option at best in a struggling offense he should remain on your waiver wire.

NE WR Kenbrell Thompkins - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Kansas City
Thompkins believers can be encouraged that he started over Aaron Dobson in Week 3. However, his 1-16 line served to quickly discourage. While he's played in roughly half the snaps in Weeks 1 & 2, Thompkins has only a 6-53 line on the season.

We is our WR62 & WR63 in PPR this week.

NE WR Kenbrell Thompkins - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Minnesota
With Aaron Dobson out of the lineup, Thompkins filled in, playing roughly half the offensive snaps. He caught only 5 of his 10 targets for 35 yards, though. Thompkins possesses the raw skills needed, but remains a better long-term hold in keeper type leagues, than a weekly starter, at this point.

Thompkins' value will take a hit when Dobson returns to the lineup. While the Patriots are being tight lipped about Dobson's status as usual, we still don't suggest rolling with Thompkins even if Dobson sits again.

We rank him as WR62 this week. You hopefully have better options.

NE WR Kenbrell Thompkins - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs Miami
Thompkins possesses the raw talent, but needs some time and development yet. He's a fine bench stash, but look elsewhere for your lineup until things develop and change throughout the season. We rank him WR94 in PPR and WR93 in standard.

NE WR Kenbrell Thompkins - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Kenbrell Thompkins possesses the raw tools to flourish in the NFL, and on the Patriots. If he can take a big step forward in his development and get consistent snaps on offense, he could be a tremendous fantasy asset this year.

Fantasy Downside
As an undrafted free agent last year, Thompkins has shown flashes of talent while also reminding us at times how far he has to go. He starts the year buried on the depth chart, fighting even for his roster spot.

Bottom Line
Thompkins is basically free at his ADP, as he will go undrafted in all but the deepest of drafts. He's a name I'd monitor throughout the season on your waiver wire, but until injuries or preseason developments start piling up we just can't roster this talented youngster. We rank him as WR99 in both formats.
