NFL is reinstating Patriots’ WR Josh Gordon, league source tells ESPN.

Josh Gordon may attend but may not play in the Patriots' Thursday, August 22 preseason game. But ready to go for the regular season.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Josh Gordon: “We are all rooting for Josh to succeed, both personally and professionally. Everyone shares in that hope and will continue to support him to every extent possible. But as Josh acknowledged, ultimately his success is up to him."

Fantasy Impact: 

Goodbye 15th-round ADP. Josh Gordon's reinstatement should send his draft spot climbing, but just how far will be interesting to see. Gordon can't play in this upcoming preseason contest but should be on the field for the Patriots to start the regular season. Last year in 12 games, Gordon averaged 11.6 PPR points per contest. For now, treat him as a WR4.

Josh Gordon has applied for reinstatement according to Howard Balzer BalzerFootball.com.

Fantasy Impact: 

Gordon missed 2015 and 2016 due to suspensions related to substance abuse. He was reinstated in 2018 and played 11 games before receiving another indefinite suspension. Reports have hinted at Gordon getting another chance this season and this would be the first step in that process. New England signed Gordon to a one-year deal despite his suspension and Tom Brady spent time this offseason practicing with him. It seems the team believes there is a chance he'll be able to play, so we should as well. He is still under thirty and looked as if he was getting on the same page with Brady before his suspension last season. With a thin receiving core in New England, Gordon should quickly return to the starting lineup if he is allowed to return and we will likely see his ADP move fast from his current spot around the 200th player off the board.

Josh Gordon posted on twitter this morning, "I will be stepping away from the football field for a bit to focus on my mental health."

Fantasy Impact: 

Tom Pelissero reports that Gordon "is facing another indefinite suspension for violating terms of his reinstatement under the substance abuse policy, per source." Obviously this is a blow to the Patriots, and could be the end of the line for Gordon, who has flashed on the field but struggled to stay unsuspended. Chris Hogan and Phillip Dorsett's playing time figures to get a bump, but the Patriots will use Cordarrelle Patterson as well. No one stands out as a great add at this point.

Patriots WR Josh Gordon still in 'growing phase'

During a Tuesday conference call, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels shed some light on how far Josh Gordon has come in catching up to the rest of the Patriots offense since he was traded from the Cleveland Browns.

McDaniels praised the work that Gordon has put in, but stressed that he and the Patriots "still in the growing phase" of acclimating him into the offense.

"I don't think we've been together long enough to say he has a foundation that's completely finished," McDaniels said. "We're gonna continue to work on that each week."

Fantasy Impact: 

While the Patriots offense is known for being famously difficult for receivers to grasp, Gordon has bucked the trend by seeing the field early in his tenure -- as well as getting targets from Tom Brady in key situations. Gordon is coming off a 5-130-1 line against the Packers, so things continue to trend up for Gordon in this offense.
