Scouting report

NE WR Jakobi Meyers - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs Kansas City Chiefs
Jakobi Meyers has been given a snap share of 70% or more in each of the past two Patriots games, and he's been efficient with his opportunity, turning nine targets into four receptions for 74 yards in Week 12 against Dallas, and seven targets into three receptions for 46 yards in Week 13 against Houston. That hasn't really translated into fantasy success, but if Phillip Dorsett continues to struggle, Meyers could see an increased role as the Patriots fine-tune their offense for the playoffs. He's not startable as anything more than a risky WR4 this week, but a strong performance could make him a sneaky play over the final two weeks of the fantasy playoffs.

NE WR Jakobi Meyers - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Houston Texans
Jakobi Meyers performed quite well in an increased role in Week 12, catching four passes on nine targets for 74 yards. It was good for a WR31 finish for the week, on a 77% snap share that was Meyers' largest of the season. Both Mohamed Sanu and Phillip Dorsett are likely to return to action for Week 13, and their presence is likely to reduce Meyers' snap share sharply enough that he won't be a fantasy factor.

NE WR Jakobi Meyers - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs Dallas Cowboys
Jakobi Meyers saw just a 26% snap share in Week 11 after fellow rookie N'Keal Harry returned from injury. Meyers season-high for targets was five in Week 5, and he has yet to exceed 54 receiving yards or catch a touchdown. Meyers has certainly shown upside with some clutch receptions and overall elusiveness after the catch, but he isn't seeing a high enough snap share or target share to be anywhere near your starting lineup.

NE WR Jakobi Meyers - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Baltimore Ravens
Jakobi Meyers' snap share plummeted with the arrival of Mohamed Sanu, which moved him from the third option at wide receiver in New England to the fourth. Meyers lined up for just 36% of the snaps. Meyers owns a 7.7% target rate for the season, and both figures together equate to near-zero fantasy value for Meyers this week.

NE WR Jakobi Meyers - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs Cleveland Browns
Rookie wide receiver Jacobi Meyers continues to impress as his opportunities increase, and over the past two weeks, he's seen snap shares of 70% and 51% respectively. Meyers' 9.1% target rate over the past two games is second only to Julian Edelman among Patriots wide receivers, which is an encouraging development. The Patriots' acquisition of Mohamed Sanu is not an encouraging development. It's not a death knell for Meyers' fantasy prospects, but he's now essentially competing with Philip Dorsett to decide who the #3 option is behind Edelman and Sanu.

Week 8 brings the Cleveland Browns to town, and on a short week of practice, Sanu could see a limited snap share so soon after joining a team with a notoriously steep learning curve for wide receivers. This would benefit Meyers' prospects this week in three-wide-receiver sets, but his projected target volume makes him a bench candidate outside of deeper leagues.

NE WR Jakobi Meyers - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at New York Jets
Jakobi Meyers lined up for 70% of New England's offensive snaps in Week 6 due to injuries to Phillip Dorsett and Josh Gordon and turned a season-high four targets into 54 receiving yards. Dorsett's return should temper expectations for Week 7, but Meyers' efficiency should go a long way toward earning him a larger target volume moving forward.

NE WR Jakobi Meyers - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs New York Giants
After losing Phillip Dorsett very early in their Week 5 matchup with Washington, it wouldn't have been surprising to see Jakobi Meyers inherit some of Dorsett's targets. Instead, Tom Brady allocated those targets to multiple options that included four targets to tight end Matt LaCosse, two targets each to tight end Ryan Izzo and fullback Jakob Johnson, three targets to Sony Michel, one target to Brandon Bolden, and just two total targets for Meyers.

That may have been a result of a game plan changing on the fly with the loss of Dorsett, but halftime adjustments certainly didn't feature Meyers either. With a short week to implement what projects to be a pass-heavy offense against the Giants, Meyers continues to be a candidate for increased volume, but he's a risky start as a WR5 at best for now.
