IND TE Jack Doyle - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Washington Redskins

Washington was top-five in aFPA to WRs last season but just 23rd in aFPA to TEs. This may be the matchup the Colts try to exploit in Week 2 with Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron. The Colts have a low 21-point implied team total for Week 2 but are underdogs, which could mean more negative game script and high volume passing. Ten targets last week indicates Doyle should continue to operate as the de facto No. 2 WR in this offense behind T.Y. Hilton. He's a TE1 again in Week 2.

IND TE Jack Doyle - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Andrew Luck makes his long-awaited return in a juicy fantasy matchup for Jack Doyle, as the Bengals were just 24th in aFPA to TEs last season. Vegas has set the over/under in this game at 48, the fifth-highest total of opening weekend. This could be a shootout. Doyle posted 12 catches for 121 yards and a touchdown last year without Luck against the Bengals. Eric Ebron may take away some of those targets, but start Doyle as a low-end TE1 in Week 1 with upside from there.

IND TE Jack Doyle - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Jack Doyle played an entire season without Andrew Luck and still finished as the TE7 in fantasy last season. That is extremely promising for his 2018 prospects. Plus, Andrew Luck threw 12 TDs to his TEs in his last healthy season in 2016.

Fantasy Downside

The Colts signed Eric Ebron this offseason as another pass-catching option, and he is notoriously not a blocking tight end. That could take some targets away from Doyle, if the Colts' new coaching staff opt to have Doyle block more this season to help protect the franchise.

2018 Bottom Line

The Colts are lacking a reliable pass-catching option behind T.Y. Hilton, which gives Doyle the best chance to function as the de facto No. 2 WR in this offense, for fantasy purposes. That gives him great upside at a position with many question marks outside the top-three fantasy names of Rob Gronkowski, Travis Kelce, and Zach Ertz. His ninth-round price tag makes him a very attractive option.

IND TE Jack Doyle - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Houston Texans

Remember when these two teams were slugging it out for the AFC South crown in recent years? Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Colts are actually a 5.5-point favorite in this game with a respectable implied team total in Vegas of more than 22 points. Plus, the Texans are 31st in aFPA to TEs. That makes Jack Doyle a candidate for a big game. Consider him a top-five TE in Week 17, who already had 8 receptions against this team earlier this season.

IND TE Jack Doyle - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Baltimore Ravens

The Colts have the lowest implied team total in Vegas for Week 16 in this Saturday game against the Ravens on the road at 13.5 points. It's more than two full points lower than the next worst team. Plus, the Colts have averaged a brutal 12.6 points per game during their five-game losing streak. Despite that, Jack Doyle has 7 receptions and/or a touchdown in three of his last four games. He's a viable PPR start again this week. In standard leagues, his upside is much more limited. It should be noted 4 of his catches last week came on the final drive in garbage time. So, there is some risk here.

IND TE Jack Doyle - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Denver Broncos

The Colts played on the road, in a blizzard, and now have a short week to prepare to face the Broncos defense. They also have the sixth-lowest implied team total in Vegas this week with just 19 points. However, Doyle got a red zone touchdown from Jacoby Brissett last week, even while playing on what looked to be the planet Hoth. He's still a TE1 this week, but the range of outcomes is wide. He's a much better PPR option in Week 15.

IND TE Jack Doyle - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Buffalo Bills

The forecast calls for snow in the afternoon and sustained winds of 18 miles per hour. Not exactly what you're looking for if you have a struggling offense like the Colts. If it's hard to pass deep, Jack Doyle should see his share of targets on short routes. Th Bills are also below average in our aFPA versus TE rankings. After a dud of a week last week, Doyle is still averaging more than 7 targets per game and a worthy starting consideration for the fantasy playoffs.
