Scouting report

PIT TE Heath Miller - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at St. Louis
After catching eight passes for 88 yards in the opener, Miller again proved valuable despite catching just two passes - on two targets - for 15 yards in Week 2. He also scored a touchdown and caught a 2-point conversion pass. Ben Roethlisberger likes to look his way down close, and with the Steelers already having converted three two-point attempts, that's an added bonus. The Rams have already given up 12 catches for 133 yards and a score to opposing tight ends, so Miller should be a decent low-end No. 1 tight end this week.

PIT TE Heath Miller - Week 2, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. San Francisco
Miller had a strong start to the season, catching eight passes for 84 yards last week at New England as he was basically the No. 2 option behind Antonio Brown. San Francisco gave up six tight end catches last week to Minnesota, so there should be some opportunities. Miller should receive fantasy consideration at home this week against what could be a tired 49ers defense that had to play Monday night and is now playing on Sunday in the Eastern Time Zone.

PIT TE Heath Miller - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at New England
With Le'Veon Bell and Martavis Bryant both out, the Steelers will have to look somewhere else to pick up the slack. Heath Miller, who needs six receptions to pass Hall of Famer John Stallworth for second on the team's all-time receptions list, could be a player who helps pick up the slack. He might not get six catches, but Miller could find the end zone in a game that has all the looks of a shootout.

PIT TE Heath Miller - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Despite catching just three TD passes last season, Heath Miller finished just outside the top 10 in fantasy points among tight ends. Some of that was because other guys got hurt, but Miller also plays in an explosive offense in which he ends up with plenty of one-on-one matchups.

Fantasy Downside
There are a lot of other options for Ben Roethlisberger to go to in this offense, and Miller doesn't run like he used to following a knee injury a few years ago.

Bottom Line
Miller is going in the 16th round in most drafts. He won't be as flashy as some of the guys being taken ahead of him, but he rarely misses a game and will have some big ones. Miller is worth a late-round flier.

PIT TE Heath Miller - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Heath Miller Wildcard game vs. Ravens
Heath Miller finished off a nice season in which he had a 66-761-3 line with a three-catch, 41-yard effort last week against Cincinnati. But in two games against the Ravens this season, he had just five receptions as he spent more time blocking than running routes. I would expect more of that this week, though he could get a few more looks as a dumpoff option with LeVeon Bell likely out.

PIT TE Heath Miller - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Heath Miller Week 17 vs. Bengals
With each of the past two opponents loading up to stop LeVeon Bell, Heath Miller has produced back-to-back 68-yard games. He did it on seven receptions last week. Miller had a one-yard TD catch against the Bengals the first time around but spent more time blocking. The Bengals will also likely try to slow Bell, which could mean more looks for Miller this time around. He should be a decent low-end fantasy tight end starter this week.

PIT TE Heath Miller - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Heath Miller Week 16 vs. Chiefs
Heath Miller has been up and down this season and had four catches for 68 yards last week on five targets. But Kansas City has allowed an NFL-best 43 receptions to opposing tight ends this season, giving up only 399 yards, though they have allowed seven TE touchdowns. There are better options at tight end this week.
