Scouting report

MIN WR Greg Jennings - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Greg Jennings - Week 4 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Greg Jennings gets a change at quarterback. He'll have rookie Teddy Bridgewater delivering passes to him. The rookie may look to the veteran as a security blanket, especially with tight end Kyle Rudolph missing some time. Jennings will be a solid pair of hands to rely on.

In an average matchup against the Falcons, Jennings should best be viewed as a low WR3.

MIN WR Greg Jennings - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Greg Jennings - Week 3 vs. New Orleans

Greg Jennings was shutdown in Week 2 against New England as he finished with just one catch for four yards. The Vikings as a whole struggled to move the ball against the Patriots, but Jennings caught the worst of it.

The Vikings will likely throw the ball more this week to keep pace with the Saints' offense. This means Jennings will have more opportunities to catch the ball. He did have an impressive Week 1 (6-58-1) so he still holds some value. He should be viewed as a low WR3 or WR4.

MIN WR Greg Jennings - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Greg Jennings - Week 2 vs. New England

Greg Jennings returned to his multi-reception, low-yard performances in Week 1. He was targeted seven times and hauled in six balls for 58 yards and a touchdown. He's now caught at least five passes in five of his last six games with Minnesota and QB Matt Cassel, dating back to last season.

He draws a difficult matchup against New England in Week 2. The Patriots have a dangerous secondary and could limit Minnesota's receiving yards. The Vikings will also continue to focus on running the football.

Jennings remains a WR3 option in both PPR and standard formats, but he offers more value in PPR given his lack of big play ability.

MIN WR Greg Jennings - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Greg Jennings - Week 1 vs. St. Louis
Near the end of last season Greg Jennings turned into a decent PPR option. In the last five games he caught seven, five, 11, four, and five passes, respectively. He also scored two of his four touchdowns in that span.

Jennings has a low ceiling, so expectations are limited. He'll be more valuable in PPR formats where he should be viewed as a low WR3 or WR4 option. In standard leagues he's a low-end WR4.

MIN WR Greg Jennings - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Norv Turner's offense could help out veteran receiver Greg Jennings this season. He'll likely see some time in the slot position, which is a positive for PPR formats. Jennings will also have Matt Cassel throwing him the ball, which proved to be successful a season ago. He averaged 68 yards in games in which Cassel started compared to 43 in games which he didn't. He also caught all four of his touchdowns last season from Cassel.

Fantasy Downside
Jennings doesn't have a high ceiling. His days of catching over 1,200 yards and double-digit touchdowns are over. He turns 31 in September and has missed 12 games over the last three seasons due to knee and groin problems.

Bottom Line
Heading into his ninth season Jennings is nothing much more than a bye-week filler. He is worth a late-round selection just to add some depth to your team. He should be viewed as a WR4.
