BUF RB Fred Jackson - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3: Spiller vs Chargers
Fred Jackson might play for the Bills forever. As people still say his effectiveness and usefulness will dwindle, he keeps proving them wrong. Last week, his numbers weren't great, but his touches were more than C.J. Spiller which should cause everyone to raise an eyebrow.

Jackson works hard for Buffalo and coaches want to keep both backs involved. So, expect about the same numbers for Jackson each week and expect him to be ranked as RB3 or flex most weeks. Against San Diego's average run defense, Jackson might give you some help, but he isn't winning your league for you.

BUF RB Fred Jackson - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2: Jackson vs Dolphins
The Bills were able to get a victory over the Bears but Fred Jackson was not much of a factor as we thought he would be. He only carried the ball 7 times which was half as many as CJ Spiller, but he had 61 rushing yards (which was more than Spiller).

It will be interesting to see if this trend continues which will hurt Jackson's value.

Against the Dolphins last season, Jackson had a 100-yard game in Week 16. He will face an average Miami defense this year means there is still a chance he could break out. But for now, we rate him a high-end No. 3 or flex for Week 2.

BUF RB Fred Jackson - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1: Jackson vs. Bears
Fred Jackson continues to play good football, and as long as that happens, the Bills are going to keep him around. That doesn't make CJ Spiller owners happy, but expect Jackson to still have a significant role in the Buffalo offense.

Now, Jackson is clearly not the starter and he is not the No. 1, but he is a backup who will get touches. Against a below-average Bears' run defense, Jackson does have some value in leagues who play with a flex or a third RB. Start him in those spots if your league dictates it.

BUF RB Fred Jackson - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Although C.J. Spiller is the No. 1 back in Buffalo, Fred Jackson still is a major factor in fantasy. The main reason is the Bills see him as a 1B option than rather a No. 2. Jackson will not get the touches Spiller does, but he will get opportunities. He got them in 2013 and had a very good season.

Fantasy Downside
Jackson is getting older and although some have given up in on him in the past, he might be at that point now where his production takes a big drop. Plus they want Spiller to be the star and circumstances including health have not allowed that to happen.

Bottom Line
There is great value with Jackson because he always seems to perform despite the naysayers. Until he doesn't get it done, keep drafting him. His ADP is 84, and he's a solid value there.
