Week 10 at Cincinnati Bengals

With Dameon Pierce out last week, Devin Singletary rushed 13 times to lead the Houston backfield. The problem is he only managed 26 yards on those carries. That's two yards per attempt. Still, he's the main back for now in Houston as Pierce is still injured and could be out again. Singletary is a borderline flex option against the stout Bengals defense and with limited upside.

HOU RB Devin Singletary - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Texans are starting to become a committee team in the backfield between Devin Singletary and Dameon Pierce. Singletary has closed the gap on Pierce, as both are starting to see about 10-12 carries each week. That makes this situation a bit muddy for fantasy purposes. Singletary gets a solid matchup this week against the Buccaneers, but if he’s only going to see about 10-12 touches, there’s only so much he can do for fantasy lineups. Start him at your own risk.

Update: Singletary is now less of a risk as he should take control of the backfield, at least for this week. Pierce has been ruled out with an ankle injury, so you have to imagine some of his carries will go to Singletary, making him a better flex option than he was before Friday.

Week 8 at Carolina Panthers

Devin Singletary started getting more involved in the offense before Houston’s bye week, seeing 12 rushing attempts to Dameon Pierce’s 13 against the Saints. The question now becomes whether this will start becoming more of a true committee in Houston. If so, Singletary becomes a borderline flex option. For now, it’s still Pierce, but this is absolutely a situation worth watching.

Week 5 at Atlanta Falcons

Devin Singletary is the RB2 in Houston and cracked our top 50 running backs this week, but bye weeks are playing a factor in that. Singletary is seeing about 7-9 carries per game but this is Dameon Pierce's backfield. Singletary is not a recommended fantasy option this week.

Fantasy Upside
For most of his four years with the Buffalo Bills, Devin Singletary operated as the starting running back. Now joining the Houston Texans, it's expected that Dameon Pierce is the No. 1 option and Singletary is the No. 2. While Singletary has had a perfectly fine career to this point -- consistently posting between 950 and 1,1100 yards from scrimmage -- it's fair to say Pierce has more upside and is the better pick for fantasy. Singletary also adds some value catching passes. He has received 41, 50, 50, and 52 targets in his four NFL seasons and has caught 75.1 percent of them.

Fantasy Downside
He's clearly the second option behind Pierce in an offense that has a long way to go before being considered a high-end unit.

2023 Bottom Line
First-time offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik has spent his entire NFL coaching career working for Mike and Kyle Shanahan, the former in Washington and the latter in San Francisco. Slowik is going to take after the Shanahans in terms of designing the run game and utilizing multiple running backs. This really should help both Singletary's fantasy ceiling and his floor. It's OK that he's behind Pierce in the pecking order, because he will not be forgotten back there. Although he's not a player to target for a front-line role, with a double-digit ADP in 12 team leagues, Singletary doesn't have to produce at a high level out of the chute.

BUF RB Devin Singletary - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Cincinnati Bengals
Devin Singletary rushed for 100+ yards for the first time this season and added a rushing touchdown. He also had two receptions for 19 receiving yards. For the most part, he is getting 12-15 touches per game with rookie James Cook getting more playing time. But he definitely is producing.

Singletary faces the Bengals who are ranked 12th in aFPA to running backs. Cincinnati's defense has been better the second half of the season so we expect the running game to be okay but not dominant.

Start Singletary as a solid RB3 or Flex for Week 17. Probably not the fantasy numbers he had last week, but good enough to warrant the ranking.

BUF RB Devin Singletary - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Chicago Bears
Devin Singletary was back to double-digits last Saturday and ended up with 16 touches total for 70 yards. He went without a touchdown for the second straight game. His snap count went back up to 60% after being below 50% the past two games.

Singletary faces the Bears who are ranked 17th in aFPA to running backs. The Bills want to keep running the ball consistently to protect QB Josh Allen.

Start Singletary as an RB3 or Flex for Week 16. Rookie James Cook has been more involved the second half of the season which has taken some numbers away from Singletary. But he still will be involved enough to help your team.
