Scouting report

NE RB Damien Harris - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs Jets

Has Damien Harris gotten back on track? He has touchdowns in two straight games and scored his second 100-yard rushing performance in Week 6 against the Cowboys. In Week 2 against the Jets, Harris rushed 16 times for 62 yards and a touchdown and the Jets haven't been much better since. Harris could make it three straight with a touchdown and is just outside RB1 territory this week in our Week 7 rankings.

NE RB Damien Harris - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs Cowboys

You just never know how the Patriots are going to utilize their running backs. The Patriots split time on the field almost right down the line among four running backs. No back played more than 40% of the snaps in Week 5. Damien Harris played just 21/64 snaps but still saw 14 carries and had 58 yards and a touchdown. But that was against the Texans. This week, it's the Cowboys, who have the No. 5 rushing defense in the league. It wouldn't be overly shocking if he ends up with numbers closer to what he posted against the Saints and Buccaneers. Monitor his status as well. He didn't practice Wednesday after leaving Sunday's game with rib issues.

NE RB Damien Harris - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Texans

Tampa's rush defense is just that good. Case in point: New England rushed the ball eight times. They totaled negative-1 yard. Yes, negative-1. Damien Harris had -4 on four carries. He should fare a lot better against the fifth-worst rush defense to date in Houston. He also saw more than double the number of snaps of Brandon Bolden against the Bucs, so Harris will be fine and is a flex or even an RB2 option this week.

NE RB Damien Harris - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs Buccaneers

Week 3 got away from the Patriots pretty early, meaning they had to scrap the run early. They ran the ball just 17 times, Harris getting just six carries. Add in two catches for negative-3 yards and you have Harris' worst outing in some time. This week, he gets the Bucs' fourth-ranked rushing defense. Harris is still a flex option, but against the Bucs, the possibility is there that New England has to scrap the run early again, so be aware.

NE RB Damien Harris - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs Saints

Damien Harris is still the back getting the most work in the Patriots backfield, but as we saw in Week 2, New England isn't afraid to get James White involved in the red zone, vulturing touchdowns from Harris. That said, there is still plenty of work for Harris. He had 16 carries to White's five in Week 2, though the touches were much closer (17-11 edge for Harris). Harris is still a fine RB2 or flex option, though the Saints are currently allowing the third-fewest rushing yards through the first two weeks of the season, and that was against Aaron Jones and Christian McCaffrey.

NE RB Damien Harris - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Jets

Damien Harris seemed to pick up right where he left off in 2020, starting 2021 with a 100-yard rushing day against the Dolphins. But New England continues to not shy away from mixing up which back is on the field. Harris saw 23 carries on just 40 offensive snaps out of 75. James White is still the passing down back, seeing seven targets to Harris' three. But if New England is going to ride Harris on the ground, then so should you in your fantasy lineups. Harris is a great runner and a very solid RB2 going forward.

NE RB Damien Harris - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs Dolphins

Harris is set to be the lead back in New England's multi-faceted backfield, especially with Sony Michel no longer in the picture. He should see most of the early-down carries, making him a very solid flex option, maybe even RB2. He might still lose passing-down work to James White and perhaps even J.J. Taylor. But Harris built some momentum in 2020 with three games of 100 yards rushing and is set to carry that over in 2021. Interestingly enough, this will be the first time Harris will face the Dolphins, who were a top-ten defense against opposing fantasy running backs in our schedule-adjusted rankings from 2020.
