Scouting report

CAR WR Philly Brown - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 – Philly Brown vs. Minnesota

Philly Brown caught only one pass against the Falcons in Week 11, but it was a late 47 yard touchdown that put the Panthers temporarily on top in what ultimately ended up being a close loss to their division rival. Brown has shown enough flash at times to help the coaching staff make the decision to cut veteran Jason Avant last week, and fantasy owners should expect an uptick in snaps for the rookie.

Brown is still a rookie however, and is still at least third on the depth chart, so his fantasy value is currently limited. However, with his youth and flashes of playmaking ability, dynasty leaguers with spots to stash players, he might not be a bad gamble for future payoff.

CAR WR Philly Brown - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 – Philly Brown vs. Green Bay
Philly Brown had only one catch for eight yards against the Bengals last week, but he was killer in return yardage leagues, racking up 139 yards on seven returns. Still, that’s a rarity, and is only beneficial in specific types of fantasy leagues. Right now, he’s fighting for a spot as a WR3 or WR4 in the Panthers offense, and has no fantasy value until that changes.

CAR WR Philly Brown - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 – Philly Brown vs. Cincinnati
Philly Brown had one catch and four yards against the Bears last week and continues to vie for a role with Jason Avant as the third receiver for the Panthers. Vying for third on the depth chart on a team that struggles offensively does not make for a very good fantasy option, and while the rookie has been intriguing at times in this young season, he’s still not worth a roster add at this time.

CAR WR Philly Brown - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 – Philly Brown vs. Chicago

Philly Brown has been inching his way into the Panther offense during this young season, and he finished last week’s game against the Ravens with two catches and 35 yards. He’s still returning kicks as well, giving him a little value in leagues that reward returners.

Ultimately however, Brown has not established himself as a big part of the offense in Carolina just yet and should be avoided for the time being. He’s worth keeping an eye on, but probably not worth a roster addition just yet.

CAR WR Philly Brown - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 – Philly Brown vs. Baltimore

Philly Brown looked good last week, taking a step up on offense and catching seven passes for 66 yards against the Steelers. He also looked bad last week, muffing a punt, recovering it, and then fumbling again, resulting in a Steelers’ score that ended what looked like a Panthers momentum shift.

Still, Brown looks like he’s earning a job on offense opposite fellow rookie standout Kelvin Benjamin, and his role seems to be growing in the absence of the injured Jerricho Cotchery. It’s too early to recommend Brown as a legit fantasy option, but he’s shown enough to warrant a roster add in leagues with a big enough bench to stash an upside player.
