TB WR Chris Godwin - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Atlanta Falcons

The move back to the slot has continued to pay dividends for Chris Godwin. Per NFL Next Gen Stats, Godwin is second in the league in receptions (17), receiving yards (228) and touchdowns (2) from the slot. He missed the end zone for the first time this season but should have a good chance to do so against the Falcons, assuming he continues to get plenty of targets each week -- he has nine in each of the last two weeks.

TB WR Chris Godwin - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

New offensive coordinator Liam Coen has been a great boost for Chris Godwin and his use in the offense. Godwin has seen at least eight targets and has scored a touchdown in all three games this season. Godwin currently has more than double the receiving yards of Mike Evans (253-120) and has ten more targets (25-15). Godwin has worked his way into WR1 territory. The Eagles did just keep the Saints' offense very quiet but if Godwin is going to be given plenty of targets, there's no reason to think he can't at least find the end zone again this week.

TB WR Chris Godwin - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Denver Broncos

New offensive coordinator Liam Coen has been a huge help for Chris Godwin with his move back to the slot. Godwin is already up to 15 catches this season and is averaging 100 yards per game. He may continue to see more targets this week with Mike Evans seeing Patrick Surtain II. Godwin is a borderline WR1 this week.

TB WR Chris Godwin - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Detroit Lions

Chris Godwin worked both inside and outside in his first game with new offensive coordinator Liam Coen. He ended up catching eight passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. One thing you'd like to see going forward is more deeper targets for Godwin. Per NFL Next Gen Stats, none of Godwin's eight targets came on passes of more than 10 yards. His average route depth was 6.8 yards, the third-shortest in a game of his career. The good news is he caught all of his targets. Always key for fantasy purposes. In fact, he led the Bucs in targets, receptions and receiving yards. Godwin is a solid WR2 this week against a Lions defense that was up and down against the Rams last week.

TB WR Chris Godwin - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Chris Godwin posted his third straight 1,000-yard season as Baker Mayfield helped boost the offense after replacing Tom Brady. Godwin is also expected to go back to seeing more work out of the slot, a similar role to that of Cooper Kupp now that Liam Coen is the offensive coordinator for the Bucs. Coen was once OC for the Rams.

Fantasy Downside

Godwin had just three total touchdowns last season and has six total touchdowns in the last two seasons. He also still has Mike Evans on the field, who built a strong connection with Mayfield last season.

2024 Bottom Line

Godwin is still quite fine in Tampa and moving back to the slot will help. But now, also given the touchdown output, Godwin is a WR3 with upside.

TB WR Chris Godwin - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs New Orleans Saints

Chris Godwin led the Bucs in targets last week with 10, finishing 6-78. It was a pretty standard game for Godwin who has become a safe bet to catch 5+ passes for 50+ yards most weeks. Godwin has only scored two touchdowns all season, and one of those scores came on a rare rushing opportunity. This week he faces the Saints (14th aFPA), a team he had success against earlier in the year with a 8-114 stat line. Godwin can be viewed as a solid WR2 option in Week 17 with a bump in full PPR formats.

TB WR Chris Godwin - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Bucs went to Chris Godwin early and often last week as he finished with a season-high in targets (12), receptions (10) and receiving yards (155). He still didn't score a touchdown, though, as he has just one TD reception on the season. But the Bucs have made an effort to get Godwin the ball the past two games after his 0-catch performance in Week 13. We'll see if that trend continues this week when he faces the Jaguars (21st aFPA). Jacksonville has given up the 4th-most total receptions to WRs over the past four weeks. Godwin can be viewed as a solid WR2 option in Week 16.
