TB RB Charles Sims - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Minnesota Vikings

Charles Sims didn't see much action last week, even with Doug Martin suspended. He had just 2 carries and 3 targets. He caught 2 of his 3 passes for 7 yards. He's not worth fantasy consideration at this point.

TB RB Charles Sims - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Pittsburgh Steelers

Charles Sims will see an increased workload this week with Doug Martin suspended. Jacquizz Rodgers is expected to be the lead back, but Sims may get some love as well. He was hurt last year, but let's not forget that in 2015 he finished with 1,000 combined yards. Don't be surprised if Sims ends up being heavily involved in the backfield.

As for now, though, playing him would be risky. We have to see how the Bucs plan to use Rodgers and Sims together in Martin's absence. Sims doesn't carry much value this week.

TB RB Charles Sims - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Charles Sims has been viewed as the receiving threat in Tampa Bay. In his three seasons, it’s been what he’s done best, most notably in 2015, when he finished with 51 receptions and over 1,000 total yards from scrimmage. He could end up having a strong role for the Bucs in 2017.

Fantasy Downside

Sims’ role is very hard to define before watching how the Bucs play. Doug Martin and Jacquizz Rodgers are seen as guys who can carry the load, which doesn’t leave much for Sims. This is a crowded backfield, and we have to watch a few games first to see how it plays out when all three are active.

2017 Bottom Line

Sims is a good running back with a lot of skills, but he’s not viewed as starter material, at least not now. He could have a bigger role with the team in the first three games with Martin suspended, but even then it’s not easy to know what he’ll do. He carries some value in PPR formats as a potential catch-heavy back, but he’s really only worth consideration in deeper leagues.

TB RB Charles Sims - Week 16, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. New Orleans
Charles Sims hasn't had a huge impact since returning from injury. He's developed a small pass-catcher role with back-to-back three reception games, but that isn't anything to get excited about. He's not really worth a look this week, despite the favorable matchup.

TB RB Charles Sims - Week 15, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Dallas
Charles Sims only played 15 snaps last week in his return and finished with 17 yards on four carries, as well as 33 yards on three receptions. He may have a larger role this week as his health continues to improve, but he'll be a hard player to trust against a tough Cowboys rush defense.

Sims' production mainly comes as a receiver, which Tampa could need considering their lack of depth at the position. But Sims is nothing more than a desperate RB3/flex play against the Cowboys in Week 15.

TB RB Charles Sims - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Carolina
Charles Sims was awful last week against Denver, finishing with 28 yards on 15 carries. Coach Dirk Koetter hinted that Sims could see fewer touches as a result of his poor play. He could also see fewer touches because he's hurt.

If he does play, Sims will face a top-10 rush defense in Carolina. The Panthers are allowing the sixth-fewest yards per carry (3.5), and it could spell trouble for a struggling, injured Sims.

Tampa doesn't have much else in its backfield, so Sims is still an RB2 if he's active, but there's not much confidence in him anymore.

TB RB Charles Sims - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Denver
Charles Sims played well as the team's starter last week, finishing with 124 yards and a touchdown, including a nice 69-yard receiving effort on six catches. He may not have quite as many catches moving forward, but he is a very dangerous receiver out of the backfield.

Doug Martin is expected to miss another week, which means another starting job for Sims. But he may not be as successful in Week 4 as he faces a tough Denver defense. Although rushers have had success thus far in the season.

We like Sims as a solid RB2 this week.
