Scouting report

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 9, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Dallas
Charcandrick West is in line to start this week, as Jamaal Charles was placed on injured reserve and Spencer Ware is in the concussion protocol. Ware hasn't officially been ruled out, but he hasn't practiced all week and it doesn't look promising for him.

West should be a solid play in a favorable matchup against the Jaguars. Even though he started the season as the third string back, he's still a talented player, able to catch passes out of the backfield in addition to running.

We like West as an RB1 play this week, as he should get plenty of touches in a good matchup.

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Pittsburgh
Charcandrick West provided some positives in the first two weeks, but offered nothing of substance last week. He'll get a good matchup against the Steelers in Week 4, but he's a very risky play considering his lack of touches. He's off the fantasy radar.

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. New York Jets
Charcandrick West had more production on the ground (61 yards) than Spencer Ware last week, but he's still not getting enough touches to make us feel comfortable playing him.

West has played well when he gets on the field, but so has Ware. We don't expect a shift in touches any time soon, so West is nothing more than an RB4 play this week.

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 2, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Houston
Charcandrick West went backwards on his three carries, but he did have six catches for 24 yards in Week 1. Some of that was due to circumstance as the Chiefs had the throw the ball more than usual, but it appears West has a slight role in this offense.

Having said that, Ware is clearly the guy to own in Kansas City with Jamaal Charles gone. West might contribute here and there, but not enough to make him fantasy relevant.

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 1, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. San Diego
Charcandrick West will have a role to play this week with Jamaal Charles likely sitting out. Although Spencer Ware is projected to start, West will no doubt get the touches needed to become fantasy relevant in a favorable matchup against the Chargers.

Ware will likely get more carries, but West could come in on third-down situations and catch some passes. He was the more effective receiver out of the two in 2015.

It should be noted he's dealing with a shoulder injury, but he's been practicing in full so we're not too concerned. West is a borderline flex play in Week 1.

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 19, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19 at New England

For the second game in a row, Charcandrick West became the lesser half of Kansas City’s backfield committee. While Spencer Ware was carving up the Houston Texans for 67 yards and a touchdown, West was held to 26 yards on eight carries. The player that emerged as a fantasy superstar at one point during the season has seemingly morphed into a fantasy scrub.

However, West is the kind of player that you do not want to underestimate, even when he is slumping. He could pick up the pace again quickly, especially since Ware has been dealing with a sprained ankle and missed some practices this week. There is also a decent chance Kansas City will go to the ground as much as possible if star receiver Jeremy Maclin is not at full strength, which is likely to be the case. Nonetheless, when you combine New England’s top ten run defense with West’s current lack of momentum, he is a dicey flex option.

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 18, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 18 at Houston

Charcandrick West heads into the playoffs at a crossroads. Thought to be Kansas City’s lead back, he struggled last Sunday against Oakland, rushing for 34 yards on 13 carries. Worse, backfield partner Spencer Ware was significantly more productive.

West did not see action when Kansas City played Houston previously, as Jamaal Charles was still healthy. Houston’s run defense is solid, finishing the regular season tenth in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game. The Texans gave up 10 touchdowns, another solid figure. Still, Charcandrick has produced his share of big moments and offers nice upside at a reasonable price for the first week of the playoffs. You could do worse in your quest to find a starter.
