Scouting report

JAX WR Calvin Ridley - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Carolina Panthers

Calvin Ridley's garbage time production against the Buccaneers saved his fantasy day, as he caught six of his nine targets for 90 yards and two touchdowns on his way to 22.8 Half-PPR points and the WR7 spot for Week 16. The six grabs were his most since Week 11 and his two scores snapped a three-game end zone drought.

Ridley's wildly volatile production keeps him in the WR2/WR3 conversation. The Panthers rank second in aFPA to wide receivers this season, and C.J. Beathard might be at quarterback for the Jaguars, which both pour some cold water on Ridley's upside this week.

JAX WR Calvin Ridley - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The good news is that Calvin Ridley had his third game with at least five receptions in his last five outings in Week 15. The bad news is that these receptions only brought him 39 yards. Over his last two games, Ridley has seen 25 targets, resulting in nine grabs for 92 yards. His 6.4 Half-PPR points were enough to finish as the WR48 last week.

If you wanted a team for a wide receiver to play against when fantasy playoffs are in full swing, you would ask for the Buccaneers, given that they rank dead last in aFPA to wideouts. But when that wide receiver is grossly inefficient, and is likely to be trusting C.J. Beathard to get him the ball, your expectations should be seriously tempered. Ridley projects to be a mid-tier WR3 play this week.

JAX WR Calvin Ridley - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Baltimore Ravens

The charitable way to describe Calvin Ridley’s Week 14 showing would be “inefficient”. The blunt way would be “bloody awful”. Ridley caught just four of his 13 targets for 53 scoreless yards on his way to 7.3 Half-PPR points. 40 wide receivers managed more last week.

Ridley has made himself hard to trust on a weekly basis, and should probably be viewed as a high-end WR3 option for this clash with a Ravens side ranking seventh in aFPA to wide receivers in 2023.

JAX WR Calvin Ridley - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Cleveland Browns

Calvin Ridley saw a decent workload in Week 13, seeing eight targets for the second most on the team. But he caught only four of them for 26 yards, giving him 5.3 Half-PPR points and a WR45 finish.

The whole Jaguars offense has to be downgraded from a fantasy viewpoint with Trevor Lawrence out of the lineup. The Browns rank 15th in aFPA to wide receivers this season, but that's not enough to project Ridley as anything more than a low-end WR3 this week.

JAX WR Calvin Ridley - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Calvin Ridley was once again among the elite performers in fantasy football last week, finishing as the WR8 overall against the Texans. Ridley caught four of his five targets for 89 yards while also nabbing Trevor Lawrence's only touchdown pass of the game. Ridley is now the WR26 in average fantasy points per game.

The Bengals are an enticing matchup for Ridley in Week 13, as they rank 22nd in aFPA to wide receivers this season. But Ridley is still operating as part of the passing attack and not the focal point of it, so his upside is somewhat capped. Still, he can be viewed as a high-end WR2 for the week ahead.

JAX WR Calvin Ridley - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Houston Texans

What a week that was for Calvin Ridley, with seven grabs for 103 yards and two touchdowns against the Titans. Ridley finished as the WR1 in Half PPR formats, a long way ahead of his WR31 ranking in average points per game.

Ridley has played himself into solid WR2 territory with his Week 11 deeds, and that's where he should be ranked for the clash with the Texans. The Texans are not great, nor are they bad against wide receivers in 2023, ranking 16th in aFPA to the position. But if Week 11 marks the turning of a corner for Ridley, then it will be hard to not start him this week.

JAX WR Calvin Ridley - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Tennessee Titans

Calvin Ridley continues to be an extremely volatile performer, with an absolutely woeful outing against the 49ers in Week 10. Ridley managed just 3.0 Half-PPR points and finished behind 67 other wide receivers. Ridley is the WR46 in average points per game in 2023 with just 8.6.

The Titans rank 21st in aFPA to wide receivers this season. But the struggles of Trevor Lawrence, and Ridley himself, do not make this an appealing matchup for Ridey managers. He should be looked at as a WR4/Flex option this week, with hopes that he can do more. But at the moment, they are only hopes.
