"This game I'm gonna be dressed and out on the field," Patriots RB Stevan Ridley said, "so hopefully I'll get some carries."

Ridley would likely help spell running backs BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead in the Super Bowl. He gives the Pats' running back corps a good combination of power and explosiveness and, if he can hold onto the ball with the opportunities he gets, he could help force the Giants' pass rush to respect New England's run game.

All year, though he’ll never say anything about it, BenJarvus Green-Ellis has fought off a painful toe injury. It has seriously limited him. Yet this week, he is off the injury report. And that 53-yard screen pass he caught against the Bills had him looking as fast as he has all year.

I said that to him. Basically I told him, you look healthy. Is that right or am I crazy?

“You’re about right,” he told me with a nod. “I‘m all right. I feel good.”

That’s about all you get. But for the Law Firm, that’s a lot. He’s healthy again. That’s why, even if Ridley gets carries, the secure, non-fumbling Green-Ellis may be the safer option. He may be primed for a big game.

Patriots RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis started strong but then faded, finishing 27th in the league in rushing with 667 yards. The guess is something is hurting him because in the latter stages of the season he didn’t hit the holes with his usual abandon.

The good news is that Green-Ellis’ troubles allowed for the late-season blossoming of Stevan Ridley, the rookie running back who looks like he may be a rare thing of late in New England — a draft choice worth the “value.” Ridley averaged 5.1 yards per carry with nearly half of his 441 yards (210) coming in the final three games.
