Scouting report

TB QB Baker Mayfield - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Detroit Lions

Even with a new offensive coordinator (Liam Coen), the Buccaneers offense continues to buzz. Baker Mayfield threw for 289 yards on 24/30 passing with four touchdowns in Week 1 against the Commanders. He now gets the Lions, a team Mayfield had 349 yards and three touchdowns against in the NFC Divisional last season. In a game that has one of the highest, if not the highest, over/unders among Week 2 games, it looks like a good bet that Mayfield will continue his hot start. Mayfield is a borderline QB1 option this week.

TB QB Baker Mayfield - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

After bouncing around a few teams in such a short time, Mayfield has at least found a steady home for now in Tampa Bay. Mayfield actually finished in the top ten in fantasy last season after throwing for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns. Dave Canales really helped revitalize Mayfield's passing game. Having Mike Evans and Chris Godwin helps quite a bit as well.

Fantasy Downside

Oh yeah, that Canales guy? He's now the head coach of the Carolina Panthers. That said, the Bucs did bring in former Kentucky HC and Rams OC Liam Coen to run the offense. And while Mayfield was a top-10 overall fantasy quarterback, he was 19th in points per game. He also isn't much of a productive fantasy runner (just 163 rushing yards in 2023).

2024 Bottom Line

Overall, Mayfield should be viewed as a QB2 but will have weeks with QB1 outputs as the Bucs should continue to do well through the air. Having Evans and Godwin to throw to is a nice asset to have and the offensive line should be improved after adding Graham Barton to the interior. The Bucs struggled in the middle of the line, particularly at center.

TB QB Baker Mayfield - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs New Orleans Saints

Baker Mayfield had another strong outing last week, throwing for 283 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers. Mayfield has been red hot in December, averaging 252.5 yards with a 10-1 TD-INT ratio in the four-game span. Even zooming out, Mayfield has been strong as he's QB11 on the season and QB6 since Week 8. He should be able to continue that success this week as he faces the Saints (18th aFPA). When he played New Orleans in Week 4, Mayfield finished with 246 yards and three touchdowns. Given his recent success, Mayfield can be viewed as a top 10 option at QB in Week 17.

TB QB Baker Mayfield - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Baker Mayfield had his best game of the season last week (arguably of his career) as he threw for 381 yards with four touchdowns. He became the first QB ever to have a perfect passer rating as a visitor at Lambeau Field. Mayfield has been on a bit of a hot streak lately, with multiple touchdowns in six of his last eight games. Since Week 8, Mayfield has been QB6 in fantasy, outscoring guys like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Mayfield gets a favorable matchup in Week 16 vs. the Jaguars (26th aFPA) where he should continue to be a productive player. We like him as a fringe top 10 QB this week.

TB QB Baker Mayfield - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Green Bay Packers

Baker Mayfield had a unique game last week. He didn't finish with many yards, throwing for 144 while rushing for three. But he scored three total touchdowns (2 passing, 1 rushing) with no turnovers. Mayfield's been a decent player in recent weeks, scoring at least two touchdowns in five of his last seven games. He gets a decent matchup this week vs. the Packers (16th aFPA), who have given up the 10th-most average fantasy points to QBs over the last four weeks. Mayfield is a solid streaming option in Week 15 if you're in need of a QB who could be on waivers.

TB QB Baker Mayfield - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Atlanta Falcons

Baker Mayfield was OK last week, finishing with 202 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Mayfield hasn't been an elite option at QB this season, but he's scored at least one touchdown in all but one game this season, and has scored at least two touchdowns in six of his 12 starts. He's a middle-of-the-road option (QB16 on the season) who is best served as a bye week filler or an injury replacement. He could serve that role this week as he draws a favorable matchup vs. the Falcons (26th aFPA). Mayfield had a decent game against Atlanta earlier in the year with 307 total yards and one touchdown. He should be viewed in the QB15 range for Week 14.

TB QB Baker Mayfield - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Carolina Panthers

Baker Mayfield had an OK outing last week, finishing with 199 yards, two touchdowns and two turnovers. Mayfield now has five turnovers in his last three games, and has thrown at least one interception in seven of his last nine games. However, also in that span, he's scored 14 touchdowns. Mayfield has been serviceable this season, but he's not someone you'd want in your lineup every week. This week he faces the Panthers, who are a tough matchup on paper (third in aFPA), but part of that is because teams mostly run on them. Carolina has allowed the 2nd-fewest pass attempts in the league, but given up the 7th-most rush attempts to RBs. Mayfield should be a solid bye-week or injury filler in Week 13, but we wouldn't play him if you have better options.
