Scouting report

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs Steelers

Another game filling in for Dalvin Cook, another smash performance for Alexander Mattison, who rushed 22 times for 90 yards and a touchdown while catching all three of his targets for 34 yards against the Lions. Mattison has now finished as RB7, RB6, and RB5 in three starts this season.

He goes up against a Steelers defense that ranks 29th in Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points per Game allowed to running backs. This game projects as a favorable game script with the Vikings as three-point home favorites. If Dalvin Cook is out for another week, we can confidently fire up Mattison as an RB1.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Lions

Alexander Mattison takes over for Dalvin Cook once again, immediately vaulting into the Top-12 running backs. Mattison has combined for 51 carries, 15 targets, 13 receptions, 324 total yards, and one touchdown in his two starts this season. That's phenomenal usage that makes him a must-play each and every week, especially this one.

That's because Mattison goes up against a Lions defense that ranks 29th in schedule-adjusted fantasy points per game allowed to running backs. The Vikings are also seven-point road favorites, making this a potentially positive game script for Mattison, which could result in more volume. Start Mattison with confidence.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Lions

Mattison is in line for an increased workload regardless of Cook's status. If Cook plays, we'll likely see similar usage as last week, where Mattison played 34% of the snaps with 10 carries for 20 yards.

If Cook is out, Mattison immediately becomes an upside RB2 because we've seen how the Vikings feed him the ball when Cook doesn't play. Mattison rushed for 112 yards on 26 carries and caught 6-of-8 targets for 59 yards in Week 3. Keep an eye on Cook's status.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Detroit

Mattison will assume starting duties for Minnesota this week with Dalvin Cook out for personal reasons. Even though the matchup against Detroit is enticing, Mattison floundered in his only start this season against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6 when carried the ball 10 times for 26 yards. We doubt Mattison will handle all of Cook’s workload, as he’ll be in an RBBC with Mike Boone and Ameer Abdullah. Mattison will be middling RB2 this week.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs Atlanta

With Dalvin Cook missing the second half of last week’s matchup against Seattle with a groin injury, Mattison took on the lead role and delivered with 20 carries for 112 yards and three receptions for 24 yards. With Cook being a non-participant in practice all this week, it would make sense if he sat out with an impending bye week, leaving Mattison as the lead back in Week 6 against a terrible Atlanta defense.

Whether he was the #1 waiver add this week or handcuff all season, Mattison should pay big dividends for fantasy managers as Atlanta’s 17th in aFPA to RBs this season. Mattison is a clear-cut RB1 in this one.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Seattle

Mattison scored his first rushing touchdown of the season as he ran for 17 yards on seven carries against Houston last week. Mattison got a few touches and even cultured a Dalvin Cook touchdown in a day where Cook scored twice and ran again ran for 100 yards. Keep Mattison strictly as a handcuff to Cook.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Tennessee

Mattison finished Week 2 with three rushes for 13 yards and one reception for three yards. Mattison will have weeks where he’ll compile a few more yards, but he doesn’t have any standalone value behind one of the league’s true workhorses. Keep Mattison on your bench for Week 3.
