Scouting report

DET K Alex Henery - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 – Alex Henery vs. Buffalo Bills
In his first game with the Lions last week in New Jersey, Alex Henery was true on his first kick from 51 yards out, but later missed badly from 52. The Lions offense will continue to move the ball on opponents, especially at home, giving Henery plenty of scoring chances.

DET K Alex Henery - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 – Alex Henery vs. New York Jets
The former Philadelphia Eagle kicker Alex Henery replaces rookie Nate Freese who was just 3-7 on FG attempts. Henery was let go by the Eagles at the end of the preseason after he struggled making some relatively short kicks. However, in his three-year career he has been successful on 86 percent (74-86) of his FG attempts. The Lions offense can light up the scoreboard, but we recommend looking elsewhere for your fantasy kicker this week, especially with Detroit playing in the sometimes wicked winds of The Meadowlands.

PHI K Henery Alex - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Alex Henery should get a lot of chances in the Eagles offense which runs a ton of plays and likes to keep things moving. He's been pretty accurate to start his career as well.

Fantasy Downside
Henery doesn't have a big leg and struggles on kickoffs, which is unheard of considering where team's kickoff. Eventually last season he struggled from between 40-50 yards, which are kicks that NFL kickers need to make. As a result, the team began not to trust him. The Birds also just traded for a kicker, Cody Parkey, from Indy to at least push Henery. Henery has attempted just one kick in preseason, a 47-yarder, and missed it badly.

Bottom Line
Henery is ranked 13th on our kicker list. If he ends up surviving camp and making the team, he should have some potential from time to time to be grabbed off the wire for a couple of weeks or during byes. He needs to make the team first and at this point that's not a sure thing. Keep an eye on this situation. There are probably better options to draft until this gets sorted out.
