BUF QB AJ McCarron - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

A.J. McCarron faces a rookie in training camp to see who will be the starting quarterback Week 1. Josh Allen was drafted as the quarterback of the future, but McCarron could win the job and be the guy for 2018. Opportunity is McCarron's biggest fantasy asset.

Fantasy Downside

McCarron can easily remain an NFL backup. Even if he is the Week 1 starter, how long will that last? He does have some NFL experience as opposed to rookie Josh Allen. But only three NFL starts and 133 pass attempts in Cincinnati is not exactly a big sample size.

2018 Bottom Line

McCarron or any Buffalo quarterback should not be drafted. No matter who it is, the Bills offense is expected to be below-average. McCarron only gets fantasy value if he starts Week 1 and performs well. For now, he isn't on the radar.

CIN QB AJ McCarron - Week 18, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 18 vs Pittsburgh

It appears A.J. McCarron will get the start on Saturday against Pittsburgh. He played against them in the last meeting when Andy Dalton sustained his current injury. McCarron actually moved the ball completing 69 percent of his passes and throwing for 280 yards and two touchdowns. However, he did throw two interceptions. Since then, he has been hot and cold in his starts. The good news is Pittsburgh's defense is not very good against the pass and quarterbacks have had success (25th in aFPA).

McCarron rates around the middle of the pack for Wild Card weekend. He isn't in the top tier, but there are worse options of the 8 starters this weekend. He should put up decent numbers, mainly based on the matchup.

CIN QB AJ McCarron - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Baltimore

A.J. McCarron continues to hold the fort down while the Bengals wait for the return of Andy Dalton. McCarron had decent numbers last week against the Broncos very good defense, throwing for 200 yards and touchdown. Of course, those aren't great fantasy numbers and Bengals are okay with that. McCarron is listed as questionable for Week 17 with a wrist injury but is expected to play.

The Bengals face Baltimore who are 11th in aFPA to quarterbacks so we don't expect much more from McCarron. He is listed as a mid-range QB2 and should remain on your bench against the Ravens.

CIN QB AJ McCarron - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs Denver
A.J. McCarron got it done in his first career start as he played the role of game manager. He completed 71 percent of his passes and did not turn the ball over. His fantasy stats were limited with 192 passing yards and one touchdowns, but the Bengals aren't really worried about that.

It might not be as easy this week for McCarron as he faces a tough Denver defense that is sixth in aFPA to quarterbacks. Couple the tough matchup with a game plan that doesn't ask the quarterback to do much and you have McCarron sitting on the bench for Week 16 as one of the lowest-rated fantasy quarterbacks.

CIN QB AJ McCarron - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at San Francisco

Well, it's A.J. McCarron's team for now as Andy Dalton sits with a broken thumb. McCarron played pretty good against Pittsburgh with the exception of the two interceptions including a pick 6. It's very hard to predict what McCarron will do since he doesn't much if a track record. He has great offensive weapons around him so that should help.

The Niners are 15th in aFPA to quarterbacks so there is room for McCarron to succeed with the matchup. But the unknown quantity with a quarterback always takes over in fantasy so he should remain on the bench for Week 15.
