Packers RB Jamaal Williams (shoulder, doubtful) missed practice all week and is doubtful for Week 17. With Williams out, Aaron Jones should see a monster workload in an important game for the Packers. They can secure a first round bye with a win and have a shot at the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC. Tyler Ervin saw some snaps last week but Dexter Williams was inactive for the game. They could also promote Damarea Crockett from the practice squad. With Jamaal Williams barely playing in Week 4 and missing Week 5, Aaron Jones turned 45 touches into 240 yards and scored five touchdowns. That included 26 touches for 182 yards and four TDs against the Cowboys.
HOU RB Tyler Ervin - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook
As the Houston Chronicle recently noted, before Ervin tore his patellar tendon last season, the former fourth-round draft pick was off to a good start. Ervin caught eight passes for 38 yards and rushed for 12 yards on four carries in four games last season. Now, Ervin is making a comeback and Chronicle staffer Aaron Wilson reports he's had a strong training camp so far. In addition to his work on offense, Ervin has 677 career return yards and is competing for a special-teams role again.
Fantasy DownsideWith Lamar Miller, Alfred Blue and—at some point—second-year man D'Onta Foreman ahead of him, it's hard to envision Ervin's role in the offense expanding greatly unless he's able to move ahead of Blue before the season starts.
2018 Bottom Line
At 5-10, 185 pounds, Ervin is the smallest of the running backs on the roster, which would likely be limiting factor in his competition with the 6-2, 225-pound Blue. In other words, you'd be wise to keep your draft-capital powder dry and wait to see if Ervin can emerge as a waiver-wire prospect once the season starts.
