Broncos boss John Elway told reporters last night that rookie quarterback Drew Lock would be placed on injured reserve today because of his preseason thumb injury. That will keep him from practicing for at least six weeks and out of at least eight games, so they’ll have to find a backup for Joe Flacco since they released Kevin Hogan yesterday.
Elway also said that tight end Jake Butt and running back Theo Riddick would join Lock on injured reserve today, giving them three roster spots to add, in addition to any shuffling they may want to do with waiver claims.
The Broncos will need a backup to Flacco. Lock's season isn't lost the team said. He'll be able to do everything other than be on the football field, so the team expects him to learn the offense and understand what's going on.
CLE QB Kevin Hogan - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook
Week 6 at Houston Texans
Kevin Hogan will get his first start on Sunday for the Browns, replacing a struggling DeShone Kizer. Hogan has played three times this season, with his most playing time coming last week. He played quite well, throwing for two touchdowns (and one INT) and 194 yards while completing 16-of-19 passes. He also added 30 yards on the ground.
Hogan has shown promise in his last two seasons, including a 100-yard rushing game last year. We'll see what he can do with a full workload this week in a favorable matchup against the Texans. Houston has allowed a 300-yard game twice in the last three weeks, including eight passing touchdowns.
Hogan clearly carries a lot of risk as its his first career start, and the Browns' passing game has struggled this season. But he could be an interesting streaming option if you're in need. He offers value as a rusher, and has a good matchup.
