BAL WR Torrey Smith - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Torrey Smith vs. Miami

Torrey Smith had a pair of touchdowns last week on six receptions, and he finished with 65 yards receiving. After a slow start to the season, Smith now has four touchdowns in the last four games, and eight scores on the season. His yardage hasn’t been overwhelming, but he seems to have regained considerable fantasy value as a low-end WR2 in most leagues.

This week, he’ll face a tough Miami pass defense, but the Dolphins are down a corner and one of the Ravens’ Smiths should benefit as a result. We’ve got Torrey ranked in the low-to-mid 20’s this week, and he should be active as a flex option or WR2.

BAL WR Torrey Smith - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 – Torrey Smith vs. San Diego

Torrey Smith had been much better lately after a slow start to the season and he seems to have reclaimed his spot as the top option in the Baltimore passing game. On Monday night against the Saints, Smith had five catches for 98 yards. Not game breaking numbers by any means, but his six targets were tied for the team lead, and that’s a good sign for fantasy owners.

Against the Chargers this week, Smith will face a top ten pass defense and his inconsistent fantasy numbers make him a risky player with a tough matchup. He remains a primary cog in the Baltimore passing game though, so he has low-end WR2 value with risk in most leagues.

BAL WR Torrey Smith - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 – Torrey Smith vs. New Orleans

Torrey Smith had five catches for 75 yards and a late touchdown to help the Ravens beat the Titans two weeks ago, and he was targeted a team high eight times. After a slow start to the season Smith has now scored in four of his last five starts, and his catch percentages have increased tremendously.

This week, Smith faces a depleted Saints secondary that has struggled with injuries on the back end. Smith is a risky start because he’s been inconsistent and the Ravens’ passing game has struggled, but he’s a risk/reward guy with WR2 upside due to his speed and his recent propensity to find the end zone. We have him as a low end WR2 in most leagues, but he’s not a bad fallback option if you’ve got an injury.

Week 10 – Torrey Smith vs. Tennessee

Torrey Smith had a nice game in an otherwise forgettable game for the Ravens against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, catching four passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. Smith has been far from consistent so far this year, but he’s been better the past few weeks than he was the first few of the season, making it likely that he’s coming around.

This week, Smith faces a middle-of-the-road Titans pass defense and the Ravens offense will be looking to bounce back from such a terrible showing on Sunday night. Due to his inconsistencies, we have Smith as a WR3 option in most leagues, but he has upside if you’re having bye week issues.

BAL WR Torrey Smith - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 – Torrey Smith vs. Pittsburgh
Torrey Smith was hurt last week and wound up without a catch in a loss against the Bengals. He’s going through concussion tests this week and fantasy owners should be sure to monitor his status heading up to the Ravens’ Week 9 matchup against the Steelers. Fantasy owners should probably be wary of Smith this week as he shakes off the potential head injury, and the Steelers have been successful against Smith in the past anyway. We have him as a low-end WR3 in most leagues.

BAL WR Torrey Smith - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 – Torrey Smith vs. Cincinnati

After a very slow start to the season, Torrey Smith now has four touchdowns in the last four games, and has been targeted an average of over five times per game, putting him back on the radar for fantasy owners. He finishes last week’s victory over the Falcons with three catches for 81 yards including a 39 yard touchdown late in the game to put the final stamp on the outcome.

Smith will face a Bengals defense this week that has struggled recently. They allowed big pass plays of over twenty yards to three different players against the Colts last week, which is something that Smith can make defenses pay with. He’s still a risky start due to his rough start to the season and his lack of targets compared to his counterpart, Steve Smith Sr., but he isn’t a bad desperation WR3 play with upside.

BAL WR Torrey Smith - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 – Torrey Smith vs. Atlanta

Torrey Smith has come along the last few weeks, and he caught two touchdowns against the Bucs on Sunday. However, he was only targeted five times and wound up with 51 yards. It’s good to see the speedy former Terp put up decent numbers, but his lack of targets remains a concern for his long term fantasy potential.

This week, he faces a Falcons defense that ranks 29th in the league in passing yards allowed per game, so the potential is there for him to continue to put up better numbers. We have him listed as a WR3 or flex option this week, with upside.

BAL WR Torrey Smith - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 – Torrey Smith vs. Tampa Bay
Torrey Smith continued his season long struggles against the Colts last week, catching only three of eight passes thrown his way for 38 yards. He has a really nice matchup against the Bucs this week, so there’s some upside as a risky WR3 or Flex option this week, but he’s done very little to establish any fantasy confidence in him and it’s probably better to let him stay on the bench unless you’re desperate.

BAL WR Torrey Smith - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 – Torrey Smith vs. Indianapolis

Torrey Smith finally got back on track against the Panthers a little on Sunday, as he gained 53 yards and scored his first touchdown on the season. However, he did it on only two receptions and was targeted only three times. That’s ten less than Steve Smith Sr., and three less than the tight end Owen Daniels.

Smith is borderline droppable at this point, though he has a nice matchup against the Colts 23rd ranked pass defense this week in a game that could turn into a shootout. Still, until his targets increase and he gets more consistent looks again, it’s hard to trust the speedy Smith to produce. Fantasy owners should keep him stashed on the bench for now, even with a nice matchup.

BAL WR Torrey Smith - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 – Torrey Smith vs. Carolina

Torrey Smith has just been awful this year and has been massively outplayed by 35 year old veteran Steve Smith Sr. Torrey had only two catches for 25 yards last week, despite being targeted eight times, and he just doesn’t seem to be in synch in the new Ravens offense.

Smith faces a tough matchup against the Panthers this week, and there’s no reason to expect him to break out now. He’s still worth hanging on to in most leagues, coming off a career year in 2013, but his lack of production makes him too risky to start at this point, especially against such a formidable opponent.
