PHI WR Torrey Smith - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Washington

Reports say shutdown corner Josh Norman will draw the Alshon Jeffery assignment for Week 1, giving Smith a chance to be more effective against Bashaud Breeland. Smith is likely a boom-or-bust option though, needing a long score to be fantasy relevant. He should not be in your lineups.

PHI WR Torrey Smith - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

In Baltimore, Torrey Smith was very consistent, finishing in the WR23—WR30 range of PPR scoring in each of his first four seasons. However, Smith was a poor fit in San Francisco, given the 49ers' bad quarterback play. Now in Philadelphia, the still only 28-year-old receiver and his elite speed is in an offense needing that on the outside.

Fantasy Downside

It remains to be seen if Smith is a good fit for Carson Wentz's inconsistent deep ball. Wentz was only 26th in completion percentage on throws 20+ yards downfield.

2017 Bottom Line

Smith is the kind of home run hitter that could give you a few good weeks in best-ball leagues, especially in the 19th round of MFL10s. However, when lineup decisions and consistency come into play in redraft leagues, it's better to take a wait-and-see approach to his new role in Philadelphia, considering he'll likely be available on the waiver wire.

SF WR Torrey Smith - Week 10, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Arizona
There is absolutely no reason you should have Smith on your roster, let alone your roster at this point.

SF WR Torrey Smith - Week 9, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. New Orleans
After showing some signs of life with seven targets in Colin Kapernick's first start, Smith came crashing back down to earth in his second start before the bye, as Smith got just two targets and one catch for 17 yards. Maybe a bye week to work on that will help, as New Orleans' defense has also given up some deep shots, as well. All of that said, you can't use Smith as anything more than a flex play with some upside given his usage thus far this season.

SF WR Torrey Smith - Week 7, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Tampa Bay
Nobody celebrated Colin Kaepernick's return to the lineup more than Smith, who was little more than a decoy with Blaine Gabbert. Smith had a team-best seven targets last week and caught three passes for 76 yards and a score. Smith should continue to be a factor moving forward and Tampa Bay has given up nine WR scores already this season. Smith should be a nice consideration as a flex play this week.

SF WR Torrey Smith - Week 6, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Buffalo
Maybe the addition of Colin Kaepernick in the lineup will wake Smith from his slumber, but until it happens, he shouldn't be in your lineup.

SF WR Torrey Smith - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Arizona
Smith had just one catch for three yards last week against Dallas and has nine for the season. No thanks.

SF WR Torrey Smith - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Dallas
Smith caught three of the four passes thrown his way last week for 35 yards. Considering it was a full third of San Francisco's pass offense, that wasn't bad. But it's not good enough for your fantasy lineup. He has eight catches for 103 yards and one touchdown on 20 targets, he's just not producing like a fantasy starter. A 40-percent catch rate isn't going to get it done. Smith shouldn't be in your lineup.

SF WR Torrey Smith - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Seattle
Torrey Smith had a productive three catches for 55 yards and a score last week in Carolina, but he's now been targeted 15 times in the first two weeks and has five catches to show for it. So there's a lot more miss than hit. You can't count on that, especially at Seattle.

SF WR Torrey Smith - Week 2, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Carolina
Two receptions for 13 yards on six targets? Really. For a supposed deep threat? Smith's time in San Francisco has been a wildly inconsistent stop. Blaine Gabbert just can't seem to work things out with him on the deep passes. He shouldn't be anywhere near your starting lineup.
