CLE WR Josh Gordon - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Josh Gordon at Baltimore Ravens

Hopes were high when Josh Gordon returned from suspension earlier this year, but Gordon has been one of the stretch run’s biggest disappointments. He has yet to score a touchdown and is averaging 4.8 receptions and 60.6 yards per game. Anyone starting Gordon in a Super Bowl game last weekend had to be angry, with Josh totaling four receptions for 45 yards. Quarterback chaos hasn’t helped, but it did not stop Gordon from being dominant last year. Maybe mysterious Connor Shaw will help get Gordon going in Baltimore, but he's nothing more than a WR2/WR3 gamble at this point.

Week 16 – Josh Gordon at Carolina Panthers
Last year, Josh Gordon was able to thrive despite unsteady quarterback play. This year, although he has gotten no support from Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel, he can’t seem to get anything going. His most recent dud in Week 15 saw him catch three passes for 48 yards. Gordon has yet to score a touchdown in 2014 and is averaging 64.5 yards per game. His pedigree and the potential for a breakout performance are the only reasons why he should remain in fantasy lineups. Proceed with caution however, as Gordon has gone from a high-level WR1 to a risky WR2.

CLE WR Josh Gordon - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Josh Gordon vs. Cincinnati Bengals
At this point, fantasy owners are probably wishing Josh Gordon had stuck to selling cars. Gordon caught just two passes for 15 yards last Sunday on a day where Indianapolis did not have top cornerback Vontae Davis. Yes, Brian Hoyer was terrible and Gordon might not be in perfect shape. But those numbers are inexcusable. At least Hoyer has been benched. Plus, Pittsburgh picked apart Cincinnati’s secondary last weekend. Gordon has a chance to rebound and should be given another chance, but has dropped into the WR2 ranks.

Week 14 – Josh Gordon vs. Indianapolis Colts
Josh Gordon has put up big numbers during his short career despite playing with a revolving door of quarterbacks. Unfortunately for Gordon during Week 13, Brian Hoyer was really off the mark, and Gordon was “limited” to seven catches for 75 yards. He was targeted 13 times. At some point, it is inevitable that Gordon is going to have a gigantic game. If Indianapolis cornerback Vontae Davis is unable to play, it could be this week. Keep Gordon in your lineup as a WR1.

Week 13 – Josh Gordon at Buffalo Bills

Last Sunday in Atlanta, it was as if Josh Gordon had never been away. Cleveland’s thrilling 26-24 victory over the Falcons marked Gordon’s first appearance of the season, and he ignited Cleveland’s offense by catching eight passes for 120 yards. He was targeted a whopping 16 times by erratic Brian Hoyer. Buffalo’s defense won’t be as easy to penetrate as Atlanta’s, but Gordon is an indisputable WR1.

Week 12 – Josh Gordon at Atlanta Falcons

One of the most anticipated comebacks of the season is going to be taking place on Sunday in Atlanta. Superstar receiver Josh Gordon, who powered many fantasy teams to championships last year, has been serving a suspension that is finally over. And his return cannot come soon enough for the Browns, who bizarrely passed on both Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans on draft day and have been using a “parts is parts” approach at wide receiver. There has been talk Cleveland won’t overwork Gordon and will ease him in, but with Atlanta having the worst pass defense in the league in terms of yards allowed per game, do not hesitate to immediately place Gordon in your lineup.
