TB RB Charles Sims - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Sims - Week 14 vs. Detroit

Doug Martin has taken over the main role as the Bucs' rusher, but Charles Sims looks like he'll play the role of the receiving back. He finished with four receptions for 49 yards (both tied for team high in the game). He carried the ball five times for six yards, struggling to find room behind the poor o-line of Tampa Bay.

He might be serviceable in PPR formats this week just because the Lions are so tough against the run. It's unclear if the Bucs will plan to throw passes to Sims or Martin or Bobby Rainey. It's best to steer clear of Sims this week.

Charles Sims - Week 13 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bucs' backfield practically saw an even split between its three backs. Here's the snap count breakdown: Doug Martin - 26, Charles Sims - 25, Bobby Rainey - 25. Even their combined efforts wouldn't make a for a great back. The three combined for 52 rushing yards and 33 receiving yards for a total of 85 yards. When you split the three you just get a bunch of ineffective fantasy players.

All three players are low RB3 options. There's an off-chance one of them scores a rushing touchdown, although I wouldn't bet on it. Josh McCown still leads the team in rushing touchdowns with two.

Charles Sims - Week 12 vs. Chicago Bears

There was an obvious shift in power last week at the RB position in Tampa Bay. Charles Sims out-snapped and out-touched Bobby Rainey, making it apparent he's the man moving forward. Unfortunately for Sims owners the increase in playing time didn't result in much production. He ran 13 times for 36 yards (2.8 avg) and caught three balls for eight yards.

It's promising to see him get more touches, but that Buccaneers' offensive line isn't doing him any favors. He also gets a fairly difficult matchup this week against the Bears. Chicago has only allowed one rushing touchdown to a back in the last five games combined.

Sims should be used as a low-end RB2 or flex play.

TB RB Charles Sims - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Sims - Week 11 vs. Washington

Charles Sims and Bobby Rainey both finished with 10 touches last week, with Sims getting more rushing attempts. Neither player was able to do much with the ball (Sims - 23 rushing yards, Rainey - 14) in what should have been a favorable matchup. Instead, quarterback Josh McCown led the team in the rushing.

Expect a timeshare between Sims, Rainey and even Mike James to continue this week. The three players will draw a tough matchup against Washington. The Redskins allowed three touchdowns to Matt Asiata last week, but had only given up one rushing touchdown to a back before that game.

The splitting of carries damages Sims' value making him nothing more than a RB3 or flex play.

TB RB Charles Sims - Week 10, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Sims - Week 10 vs. Atlanta

Charles Sims frustrated owners last week as the Bucs were giving mixed signals as to his availability. He ended up being inactive after being taken off the injured reserve list. Lovie Smith has stated this week the rookie will get his NFL debut.

The Bucs want to be careful with Sims' injury (as shown by his inactive status last week) so Bobby Rainey will get the majority of the touches. It's unclear how useful Sims will be in the offense, so he's a major gamble.

Sims is a talented back and has drawn comparisons to Matt Forte, but don't expect him to run wild just yet. He gets a great matchup this week against Atlanta and will likely get around 10 touches. He should be used as a low RB3 or RB4.

TB RB Charles Sims - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Sims - Week 9 vs. Cleveland

Charles Sims has been on injured reserve since the preseason (ankle). He returned to practice last week and practiced in pads this week. As of this moment the Bucs haven't activated him to the roster so it remains to be seen if he plays Sunday. Beat writers have said on Twitter they expect to see him play, however.

If Sims does play it would likely be in a smaller role, with Bobby Rainey carrying the load. Tampa Bay wants to be careful with Sims' injury and not rush him into things.

He'll draw a favorable matchup this week, but shouldn't be seen much more than a low flex option.

TB RB Charles Sims - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Sims was a third-round draft pick by the Bucs and was expected to contribute as a rookie. In training camp, however, Sims tore a ligament in his right ankle and is expected to be out until at least Week 13. It's possible Tampa Bay places him on injured reserve.
