Scouting report

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Jonathan Taylor was held to just 2.4 yards per carry against the Falcons last week, but he received 18 carries and found the end zone, which bodes well for his health. Taylor should continue in his lead back role as long as he stays off the injury report, and he’s shown he can still produce when he’s available. In just eight games this season, he’s still found the end zone six times and averaged 74.3 yards from scrimmage per game.

This week, Taylor faces a Las Vegas defense that ranks 25th in aFPA to opposing running backs. In a nice matchup with an expected full workload, Taylor should be considered a viable RB1 in all fantasy formats this week. Start him.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Atlanta Falcons

Jonathan Taylor is expected to return after missing time with a thumb injury. He scored two touchdowns in his last outing and has 551 yards and five touchdowns total in his seven games of action this year. With Zack Moss suffering an arm injury against the Steelers last week, the Colts are going to need their top back.

If Taylor returns, he’ll face an Atlanta defense that ranks 14th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Expect the Colts to lean on the run game once again, and for Taylor to get a full workload. Watch the injury report carefully and be prepared with a backup plan, but as long as he’s active, he should be considered a viable RB1 option in all leagues.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jonathan Taylor led the way with 23 carries and a catch for 75 yards and a touchdown in a low-scoring victory over the Patriots before the bye last week. Taylor hasn’t rushed for 100 yards in a game yet this season, but he’s scored three touchdowns in six games and his role has increased since he returned in Week 5 off the PUP list.

This week, Taylor has a tough matchup against a Tampa Bay defense that ranks second in aFPA to opposing running backs. Regardless of the difficult matchup, Taylor’s workload and talent makes him a must-start every week. This game has some surprising offensive potential, and Taylor should be active in all leagues.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. New England Patriots (Germany)

Jonathan Taylor logged his highest snap count of the season last week against the Panthers, seeing 74% of the team’s offensive snaps compared to 21% for Zack Moss. Taylor ended up with 18 carries and five receptions for a total of 69 yards and a touchdown in a victory. He now has at least 13 touches in five straight games.

This week, Taylor faces a Patriots defense that ranks 15th in aFPA to opposing running backs. With Taylor seemingly fully ramped up and getting a heavy workload, he’s back to being someone worth starting every week. We have him ranked as an elite fantasy option in what should be a ground-control game. Start him.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Carolina Panthers

Jonathan Taylor’s snap count keeps increasing, as he was up to 61% last week against the Saints. Taylor ended up with 12 carries and a reception for 97 yards from scrimmage. He’s definitely sharing work with Zack Moss, but it doesn’t seem to be hurting him too badly. If anything, the one-two punch might be keeping both backs fresh and increasing efficiency.

Taylor has a fantastic matchup against the Panthers this week. Only the Broncos rank lower in aFPA to opposing running backs this season, so Taylor should find plenty of room running against this defense. Start Taylor as a solid RB1 option.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. New Orleans Saints

Jonathan Taylor split carries and snaps 50/50 with Zack Moss last week against the Browns. It seems the Colts like their two-headed backfield, and it’s hard to argue with the results. Taylor still ended up with a nice fantasy day, gaining 120 total yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and three receptions. If he can get 21 carries in most weeks, he’ll be well worth his lofty draft slot as the season progresses.

This week, Taylor has a tough matchup against a New Orleans defense that ranks 11th in aFPA to opposing running backs. If Zack Moss, who is dealing with an undisclosed injury as of Wednesday, plays as he has been, Taylor will be vying for snaps again. However, his usage the last two weeks makes double-digit touches likely, and with his talent, he should still be a fringe RB1 option.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Cleveland Browns

Jonathan Taylor ramped up from 15% of the team’s offensive snaps in Week 5 to 42% last week. He ended up with eight carries and 19 yards, but added 46 yards on five receptions as well. He also received the exact same number of touches as Zack Moss, which is encouraging considering how much Moss played in Week 5. This is likely a two-back system moving forward, but Taylor should get the bulk of the touches as early as this week.

Unfortunately, Taylor faces a ridiculously good Cleveland defense that ranks fifth in aFPA to opposing running backs. If Taylor gets a full workload, he’s still expected to put up solid RB2 numbers in all fantasy leagues based on the talent. Additionally, this could be a low-scoring, grind-it-out affair, leading to better production from the running backs. We have him ranked just outside RB1 territory, but he’s still worth starting, with hope that he’ll be fully integrated back into the offense after his two-week ramp-up.
