NE RB Rhemondre Stevenson - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. New Orleans Saints

It's been really surprising to see Rhamondre Stevenson struggle the way he has this season. His numbers have basically gone down each week, from 89 total yards in Week 1 to 60 to 62 to 40. Still, he's getting more work than Ezekiel Elliott, so he remains the better fantasy back in New England, but the gap is closer than it was at the start of the season. Keep in mind too that last week really got away from the Patriots. The Saints have also been pretty good against the run this season. Stevenson is a borderline RB2 this week as long as New England continues to lean on him.

NE RB Rhamondre Stevenson - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Dallas Cowboys

Rhamondre Stevenson continues to see the bulk of the carries for the Patriots, but the production hasn’t quite been what we’ve expected so far from him. The Patriots have also been pleasantly surprised by Ezekiel Elliott (80 rushing yards vs. Jets). Still, Stevenson is the lead back for the Patriots and should continue to see work in the passing game despite catching just one pass in Week 3 in a game where both offenses struggled.

NE RB Rhemondre Stevenson - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at New York Jets

It's been a rough start for Rhamondre Stevenson, who has just 75 yards rushing through two games. He does also have 74 receiving yards through two games, so it isn't all bad and he did score a touchdown against the Dolphins. He remains the lead back in New England, so there's no worry there. But it doesn't get any easier for Stevenson and the Patriots. A road trip to a very hungry Jets team awaits. So far, only one running back (Tony Pollard) has eclipsed 50 rushing yards against the Jets. His receiving ability helps keep him with solid value, especially with the improvement from quarterback Mac Jones.

NE RB Rhemondre Stevenson - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Miami Dolphins

Rhamondre Stevenson got involved in the passing game, as we expected, especially with New England having to claw back early from being down 16-0. Because of that and Ezekiel Elliott getting a few carries, Stevenson only saw 12 carries in the game. Still, that's 18 touches and that should go up. This week, he gets a Miami defense that allowed Austin Ekeler to go nuts in Week 1 in what was a wild shootout. Stevenson isn't on the level of Ekeler, but he's very capable of putting up good numbers in any given week. We're still starting Stevenson in a good spot.

NE RB Rhamondre Stevenson - Week 1 Fantasy Football

Week 1 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Even with the addition of Ezekiel Elliott, Rhamondre Stevenson is the man in the backfield for the Patriots. He may lose some short-yardage touches but he’ll still get more than enough work to stay among the top fantasy running backs, even in Week 1 against the tough defensive line of the Eagles. As the Patriots try to gain more confidence in Mac Jones, they will continue to lean into Stevenson, especially this week as they try to keep Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense off the field as much as possible.

NE RB Rhemondre Stevenson - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Rhamondre Stevenson has seen his role expand over the past year and a half and now looks entrenched as the lead back in New England. There may be weeks where he doesn't see a ton of carries, but he's well-involved in the passing game to help make up for it. He had six games with at least five catches and finished with 69 receptions on 88 targets. He's the man for the Patriots.

Fantasy Downside
The Patriots still have a handful of running backs behind Stevenson -- Ty Montgomery, J.J. Taylor, Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris -- that could take some work away from Stevenson. There's also still the possibility that the Patriots sign former Vikings RB Dalvin Cook. He would absolutely put a damper on Stevenson's fantasy value. Keep your eyes open on that front.

2023 Bottom Line
For now, Stevenson is the lead back and in the RB1 conversation in the fantasy world, even with all the running backs New England has. They won't put too much of a dent, even combined, into Stevenson's value. Dalvin Cook, however, would really change things.

Update: With the Patriots signing Ezekiel Elliott, Stevenson’s value takes a ding. Elliott will steal the short yards and perhaps the goal line carries. Still, Stevenson is the superior back and should still see at least 20 touches a game, making him a very solid RB2 in fantasy with low-end RB1 upside.

NE RB Rhemondre Stevenson - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Miami Dolphins

Rhamondre Stevenson was banged up a bit coming out of the Bengals game, as he is dealing with an ankle injury. The early indication is he will play Sunday against the Dolphins. He's hoping for better luck than he had in Week 1, when he had just 25 rushing yards, but this was before he started taking over as the lead back for the Patriots. He may not be 100%, but he should be good enough to help lead you to a championship.
