Scouting report

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Chuba Hubbard averaged just 3.2 yards on 14 carries in a loss to the Titans last week, but he did find the end zone. It was only his second touchdown on the season and he’s really struggled to put up quality fantasy production, despite averaging 13.3 touches per game on the year. Hubbard is tough to count on this week in a timeshare with Miles Sanders and up against a very good run defense. The Buccaneers rank second in aFPA to opposing running backs. Hubbard should be considered a low-end RB3 at best.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Tennessee Titans

Chuba Hubbard split work with Miles Sanders against the Cowboys last week after taking the bulk of the workload in the previous few weeks. He finished with 65 yards on 10 carries and a pair of receptions. It was nearly a 50-50 split on touches, which isn’t encouraging for Hubbard, who wasn’t very productive in the full-time gig. Neither running back looks particularly good right now, and the Carolina offense looks terrible, so banking on Sanders or Hubbard looks like a losing proposition. There’s upside if he can get touches this week against the Titans, but fantasy managers should still view Hubbard as a low-end RB3 option at best.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Dallas Cowboys

Chuba Hubbard seems to have taken over the starting job from Miles Sanders, but he hasn’t been particularly good in that role. He was part of a dreadful offensive performance last week against the Bears, gaining just 23 yards on nine carries. Hubbard has single-digit half-PPR fantasy points in three straight weeks now and has only found the end zone once all season.

This week, Hubbard faces a Dallas defense that ranks 12th in aFPA to opposing running backs. It’s hard to imagine Hubbard getting back on track against this defense, especially in a game where the Panthers are likely to trail the entire time. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere if possible, and view Hubbard as a RB3 option at best.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Chicago Bears

Chuba Hubbard has seen over 60% of the team’s offensive snaps in two straight weeks now, despite Miles Sanders being back in action. Unfortunately, Hubbard hasn’t been particularly effective in the role. He averaged just 3.6 yards on his 16 carries, adding four receptions for nine yards in the passing game.

This week, Hubbard faces a vulnerable Bears defense that ranks 28th in aFPA to opposing running backs. If he gets another 20 touches like he did last week, he should be worth consideration as a solid RB2 in fantasy leagues, but downgrade him to flex territory based on his struggles in the lead role as of late.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Chuba Hubbard struggled against the Texans last week, gaining just 28 yards on 15 carries. However, he added a pair of receptions for 26 yards, and most importantly, he out-snapped Miles Sanders 67% to 18%. That’s a good sign for the talented Hubbard, who may have stolen the job away from the high-priced free agent addition.

This week, Hubbard has a nice matchup against the Colts, who rank 27th in aFPA to opposing running backs. While there’s still some risk that Miles Sanders shakes off his injury/rust/struggles and this goes back to being a full timeshare, it’s pretty clear that Hubbard is the best back in Carolina. We have him ranked as a low-end RB2 option this week, and he’s a nice surprise fantasy option this season.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Houston Texans

Chuba Hubbard got the start against the Dolphins before the bye last week with Miles Sanders out with a shoulder injury. Hubbard was better than Sanders has been, rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. I don’t think Sanders is out of a job, but Hubbard had been getting touches even with Sanders healthy, and I think that continues moving forward.

This week, Hubbard faces a Houston defense that ranks 25th in aFPA to opposing running backs. If Sanders misses time again, Hubbard could flirt with RB2 numbers in a great matchup. If Sanders starts, it’s likely to be a committee, landing both players in low-end flex territory, but if Sanders is out, start Hubbard.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Miami Dolphins

Chuba Hubbard actually slightly out-snapped Miles Sanders last week in a blowout loss to the Lions. He wasn’t particularly productive, however, as he was held to just 35 yards on nine carries and one reception. Hubbard has a role in this offense, but his output is too volatile in his part-time position to make him worth starting in most fantasy leagues. Even in a nice matchup against a Dolphins defense that ranks 26th in aFPA to opposing running backs, it’s too risky to put him in lineups. Sit him, though he’s worth a stash in deeper leagues in case the nagging injury Sanders is dealing with becomes a more debilitating one.

Update: With Miles Sanders out, consider Hubbard a fringe-RB2 option, set for a full workload.
